Hal de Bolt

. . . lost the battle with cancer.

Particulars as they are known in the D-V list on YahooGroups.

Always sad to see the great ones go.
I still have one of his All Americans hanging in my hanger. It looks as good as the day I finished it in 1955.

Good by Pappy, you were one of my boyhood idles. I hope they allow pipe smoking in heaven.

Yea, I just heard about pappy this past weekend. I got to help him out a couple times last year while living in florida for a year and flying in the valkyries (only when he would let me help him though). He flew to the end, he had been working on a gyrocopter trainer while I was there. Always interesting to watch. I am proud to have known him.

I never had the opportunity to meet Hal, only to speak with him a few times. Mr. DeBolt was one of those that was dedicated to the advancement of the hobby, and with designs and performance of those designs. He never stopped trying, and often succeeded, in improving those designs.

Hal gave so much to so many in this hobby, including myself. Many today can not possibly know or understand most of what or who Hal was, but he influences this hobby and their lives still.

Hal, I never was fortunate enough to meet you, but I hope to someday.

God Bless

I hadn't realized Hal had passed away. My first airplane was a Live Wire Trainer, I memorized his articles especially the one where he described his first experience with proportional. I have stood on the sidelines at contest and marveled at the smoothness of his designs and flying skills. I never had the opportunity to speak to him but he remains a hero to me.
