This is pretty standard in the park flyer group, BUT THIS RADIO IS ON 72mhz. That's our controled frquency range, we have flying fields for planes using this frequency range. RE: Important information????
So am I to take from this that the Hobby Shop owner will not sell an aircraft radio to any one who is not AMA?

Dr. Sandy Frank Hobby stores should also be held liable in the event someone tries to fly a model and causes injury to someone else. If everyone will take responsibilities for others this hobby shall be great! All remote control aircraft flying should be under strict organized club supervision. There are clubs available everywhere that will make every effort to keep members in control and allow for a safe hobby. BTW this is not the first oversight of this type by the hobby industry. |
RE: Important information????
Has anyone called HQ to see it they are aware of this situation?
I just e-mailed Jay Mealy with the above post. BRG, Jon |
RE: Important information????
I agree with littlecrankshaft.
This hooby store owner should be removed from the AMA. IMMEDIATELY. And fined. And we should all boycott Horizon. Now. And this guy who is so concerned about this is out of his mind. Well-intentioned, but out of his mind. Please don't email Jay Mealy about this. I would rather he spend his time doing ANYTHING else rather than even spending three minutes reading and responding to this "situation". |

RE: Important information????
ORIGINAL: littlecrankshaf I think hobby shops shouldn't sell any R/C planes or equipment to anyone unless they can produce a current AMA card and also sign an agreement to maintain the affiliation in the future. Yes AMA does have a supreme right to the 72 MHz band and anyone other than an AMA member using 72 MHz should be jailed and fined. BTW the AMA should go ahead and monopolize the 27mhz band too since many are flown at AMA chartered fields and the little aircraft might hit someone while flying a real model likely causing the real model to become out of control resulting in a serious injury that would ultimately cause the demise of the hobby as a whole. Hobby stores should also be held liable in the event someone tries to fly a model and causes injury to someone else. As Dr Frank said "I am forwarding this to the POWERS at AMA in Muncie,IN." I'm sure the POWERS have deployed forces in response to this threat already, and have the situation contained by now, or soon will. The unmitigated gall of those people - flying their toys on OUR frequencies. Abel |

Honestly Hey Exeter_acres, I just forwarded that information to those here who are so much more intelligent than I. I am sure that being a good AMA member you have a frequency sharing plan with each and every park flyer in your community, past, present, and future.... /end sarcasm |

Dave Brown was asked this question at Joe Nall, by me and he had no ansewer.

Have you, or anyone you know, lost their BVM Phantom to a park flyer nearby? I mean, I hear all these fears, and have never yet heard of it happening to anyone. |
RE: Important information????
I lost a 30% Laser 200 to interference from someone flying a small electric nearby the club field. After I got over the shock of not having any control of the aircraft and watching it go down until it got below the horizon, I was angry. Since then I have just gotten careful. It will become a much more serious problem in the future, but I am not sure the sky is falling..YET.

RE: Important information????
I am glad someone has finally addressed this problem. I too have thought this has the potential to be a real problem. I think a lot of people are buying these type planes because they can fly them just about anywhere and they don't have to be a AMA member. Alot of them know nothing about frequency control. Some don't even know or don't care that they could shoot down someone else. I know a lot of these park flyer type planes are being sold to people who are not and don't want to be a AMA member or fly at a local club field. Just something to think about.

RE: Important information????
I got an e-mail back from Jay and they are aware of the problem. Not sure what they can do about it though.

RE: Important information????
My field has had several problems like this, and the events seem to be happening at an increasing rate. Lack of education is the problem, I guess depending on your political persuaion, you could call this an elitist problem, typical AMA club field type operators (more engaged and committed) against true "throw away" toylike planes
A friend of mine just went to work at Horizon, so I know a little about some of the business they are doing. Get this... Now in Illinois, they do nothing but product management, customer support, fullfillment, etc, no manufacturing. They have SIX HUNDRED people. They have hired many people (modelers) just to help with foamies. I think these things are sold in MUCH HIGHER volumes than many think, much higher. How many are on 72 mhz, I do not know, and I agree there is probably nothing anyone can do about it, but I wish the AMA would at least act like it is a bigger problem, seems like they threw up their hands pretty fast. |
RE: Important information????
ORIGINAL: littlecrankshaf I think hobby shops shouldn't sell any R/C planes or equipment to anyone unless they can produce a current AMA card and also sign an agreement to maintain the affiliation in the future. AMA is not the government, it is not a license, it is not regulatory! A hobby show would do good to hand out education literature but if he is going to stop selling to people he may as well close up the shop and move to China! Gary |

Regards Roby Certainly we all should take responsibility for the actions of all other individuals in the hobby, just as LCS believes. Where can anyone have a problem with any of the concepts put forth by LCS? edit: btw, the AMA is a license. If you have any doubt, look at the lower left corner of your AMA card. |

RE: Important information????
That being so I think we should close every store in America because we will no longer have anything to sell with out worying about liability. That's ass9.
A License? By the government? To do what? I got a license out of a cracker jack box but it doesn't mean didly! Gary ORIGINAL: J_R I think LCS's comments are on right on target. edit: btw, the AMA is a license. If you have any doubt, look at the lower left corner of your AMA card. |

ORIGINAL: J_R Can't you clearly see that if someone goes out a buys an RC system and couples it up with some feritilizer and uses the combination to blow up the local federal building that the RC system manufacturer should be responsible to the families of those blown up for their loss?
