1/2a pylon rules need updating
 

The current 1/2a pylon rules dictate a 20oz flying weight. I can build a reed valve pylon racer in the 8oz range and a TeeDee .049 racer for less than 10oz. Is there something I'm missing? Why in the world did they make that extreme weight? Was this something that's considered dangerous? The club reedie race I just attended didn't have a minimum weight and it was safe and extremely fun. Man, I'd love to see this grow and new races happen.
The actual racer that I used weighed in at 12oz because it was my first race and I was more familiar with this plane.

What do you guys think? What would need to happen to get this rule changed and maybe a second rule for reed valve engines?

I wouldn't mind a lighter model weight minimum for a class of racer.

ptulmer, I'd be willing to bet that among the AMA rulebook pylon classes that 1/2 A pylon (423) is among the least active probably just ahead of F3D pylon (427) in the US. Sport Quickie (424) is rapidly on the rise in activity. I would suggest you ask this question in the pylon forum here at RCU under general race discussion. You may also want to explore the site below to get a handle on things and happenings.

In addition, may I suggest that you check the AMA web for the AMA Competition regulations and check out the Contest Board Procedures / Rules Change procedures. Then you will have the information to initiate any changes, if after discussing the current rules with others that fly the event.

Two events a year not enough? Taking home hardware not enough? Cmon man at least you got to fly this time! Or are you afraid I am gonna hand you a DNU butt on a plate at our next meeting via a Hot Foot?[X(]:D My kid still had the hottest and fastest birds out there.[sm=bananahead.gif]:D

Vic, one thing I discovered about myself the other day is that two events a year AIN'T gonna be enough!

Thanks for the leads guys. I'm going to keep on this. You just can't imagine how much fun the little reedie race was unless you've done it. The stress was almost zero. If you crash, you're out ten bucks balsa and covering!
