Edited to add: Upper left to right: Fun Fly 02/04/06, An annual (first weekend each June) pattern meet, Impound / sign-in for events and daily use, Tenth Anniversary Fly In 03/25/06. Lower L -- R: Balloon Bust @ FF ( 4 airplanes at once in the pattern), Visiting Big Bird Pilot 12/03/05 2nd edit: Notice the 10th anniv. Fly-In photo. Past the fence there is a concrete pad. That is for chopper pilots to practice close-in hover, and 3-D ELECTRICs are permitted to fly in that area and NOT be counted as the max. of 5 fliers on the field. Fun is planned for and even allowed. :D |
RE: LETS SEE YOUR CLUB
Interesting idea. I haven't joined a new club since I moved to Fremont (spent too much time being activated). However, I can post the links of the last two clubs I was in. All clubs are in California.
When I lived in Roseville, I went to the Sacramento Red Barons. They just recently acquired a new flying site. http://www.sacredbarons.com/ Later, when I went to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, I joined the SloFlyers http://sloflyers.com/ Since then, I've switched to pure electrics and fly at the Baylands Park in Santa Clara. However, it is an open park and not AMA Chartered. http://www.bayrc.com But, I have visited the Bayside RC Club in Fremont occasionally. The fly zone is a tad crowded for my taste, but they hold some really cool events now and then. A very electric-friendly club, I might add: http://baysidercclub.com/ Could be a useful thread. AMA's Club Search feature rarely includes the website of the club. Make sure everyone posts the name and location of the club so that people can text-search this thread. |

Hey Hoss, that looks like a very nice place to fly. Looks like alot of action going on there, and alot of folks having a fun time! Thanks for putting up the pics and link. I don't know you personally, but I always enjoy seeing the different spots around the country where people fly that I converse with on the net. Helps give me a better visual image in my head when people are discussing things regarding there clubs and such.

RE: LETS SEE YOUR CLUB
I would love to, but I don't think there are more than maybe 10 R/Cers in my area. There is a small field about 30 minutes away that MS. State University uses for their aeronautical engineering department, but that's not really a guaranteed place to fly. I stopped there the other day and one guy was flying and he said that the University lets them use the field whenever they want, without any fees and without requiring AMA coverage, but that they have to stop flying anytime an engineering student needs to use the area. They're really good about it, and unless it's something important they supposedly don't make them stop flying much, but it's not a great place to fly nor is it a reliable place.
Also, after talking to this guy the other day, I got a strong and distinct impression that none of the people who fly at the University would have any interest whatsoever in starting a club. There used to be one here about 15 years ago that had maybe 20 active members and I was a member then. That's all gone now though. Once I start flying with these guys a bit I might test the waters and see if anyone would be interested. As it is now I plan on joining a club that is 100 miles away to fly with every couple of months. [&:] ORIGINAL: ckangaroo70 ORIGINAL: RVM I wish there was one reasonably close to where I live. :( |

Here's Gold Country R/C Fliers of Beale AFB, CA. We're just North of Sacramento. We don't have a fancy webcam, that is very nice. You can even see the windsock from the runway camera angle...nice touch.
The flying field at Beale is simple...an old road that was blocked off for about a half-mile. They just finished sealing the cracks in the road prior to this picture at an Aerial Photography "Meet and Greet." One of the fellows at the meet took a picture of the field, so here it is! |
