Coverage Question

Quick questions - Are you only covered at an AMA-sanctioned field? Or, is coverage anywhere in the US?

RE: Coverage Question

fmbettaguy,

Anywhere, as long as you are complying with, or at least not violating, the Safety Code.

Ken, AMA 19352

After reading Abel Pranger's reply, I must edit to ad:

Or, perhaps, it would be bad to do something so illegal and stupid that you might get arrested for doing it.

Terse and to the point, Ken. Good, but there are other conditions besides the AMA Safety Code: gotta be in compliance with whatever laws may prevail in the jurisdiction of whatever authority has it in the locale where you are intent on flying, have the site owner's permission to be there, etc. Better check the insurance policy (AMA Doc 500-L on the web site), and call Carl Maroney at AMA HQ to get the scoop on insurance provisions, conditions and exclusions that are not documented in writing therein. Besides, there are no AMA-sanctioned fields per se with the possible exception of the National Flying Site in Muncie, IN, and different insurance provisions, conditions and exclusions apply while an AMA-sanctioned event is being conducted at a site, be it an AMA-chartered (vs. 'sanctioned') club field (clubs are chartered, fields aren't) or not.
Have the legal practitioner of your choice on the line when you call Carl, and the recorder turned on, too.

Abel
