Texas is for R/C!
Picked this up in another forum, thought it worth passing on. This [link=http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=80R&Bill=HB1183]Bill[/link] has passed both houses of the Texas legislature and been sent to Governor Perry for signing.
"HB 1183 would limit the liability of landowners who provide safe locations for radio-control aircraft enthusiasts to practice their hobby. Radio-control flying is a popular and worthwhile activity. When model aircraft flying groups stage tournaments and events, they often donate all profits for to charitable organizations within the community. Appears better than the deal in CA, as liability of private property owners that allow use of their land for R/C is limited, not just public entities. Texas takes the lead on getting a leash law enacted for land sharks. Gonna get me a 6 pack of Lone Star and have a quiet celebration. Hoss, you should toss a couple down with your Representative Otto. :) Abel |

Have to give that credit to the ARF ( Initially the Almost Ready to Fly Club but now Always ready to Fly Club) about 60 miles north of me up in Livingston, TX. Incidentally Livingston is my home town and yes I do belong to the ARF club just because it is a dad-burn great bunch of good guys and they cook up a bunch of great catfish at their Fly-Ins. :)
Anyway, the Pres. of ARF RC, Don Hirt, initiated that request with the local state rep. How about that? [sm=thumbs_up.gif] |
RE: Texas is for R/C!
I hope Perry signs it, or at least allows it to become law without his signature (it's possible for legislation to become law in Texas without the gov's signature). Perry has a reputation for shooting surprise vetos at legislation after the legislature has gone home (i.e. the lawmakers weren't of his objection beforehand).
If it passes, I'll supply a copy of it with the AMA insurance certificate to our land owner after next year's recharter. Gary |

Unfortunately, we failed to get less specific, or more inclusive, language which would include control line and free flight activities.

This sets a great precedent for other states to follow. Hope they do.

Should stand a good chance of passing. Gov Perry used to be a pilot and my guess is he has participated in the hobby at one time or another and views it in a fovorable light.

How about that? [sm=thumbs_up.gif] Perhaps you can encourage the Pres. of ARF to make his notes, documents, etc available to any club or individual who would like to do the same thing in their own state? Maybe even keep them all on the AMA web site so ANYONE (not just memebers) could access them and download them for use? God! Would that be pro-active or what? The Mule |
RE: Texas is for R/C!
Tell you what, S.M.: here is a link to the TX clubs in AMA D-VIII.
http://www.ama-dist-8.org/Clubs/clublisttx.html Now you can find the A.R.F. club listed there. IMO, it would mean a lot more if someone such as yourself contacted the Club and requested their inputs, and made this suggestion. Then you could also locate on that web site the D-VIII AMA DVP, and I know that others will get more consideration from Mr. Rice than I do . He could take your request to AMA, along with your own DVP. |
RE: Texas is for R/C!
Sounds great , now maybe we can get the rest of the states to follow along.

RE: Texas is for R/C!
Congratulations to the ARF Club, & the state legislature. This is good for R/C.

Did AMA have any role in the sculpting of this legislation?

ORIGINAL: joshscfld Did AMA have any role in the sculpting of this legislation? This past Saturday, I attended the ARF Club's Summer Fly-In where they collect food-stuffs for the local County Food Bank. It was a blast and lots of fun with mucho fried cat-fish served with MORE than all the trimmings. In a bit of conservation, and with my previous knowledge of the work performed by ARF, I suggest that AMA was not involved in any sculpture sessions. |
RE: Texas is for R/C!
Its fantastic to see that people can do great things for modeling and modelers without having to get
"approval" nor input from the "powers that be". Great job! |
RE: Texas is for R/C!
Any updates on this? Is it a done deal?
