First you need to be a decent enough pilot that your clubmates agree that you are capable of helping someone else to learn. Then you need to be willing to be an instructor pilot. Next your club will notify AMA that you are capable and willing, then pay the ten bucks.

There really isn't a certification, instead you will be given a set of guidelines on when a student is covered by your membership and when they should begin membership. You will also recieve an AMA card that identifies you as an instructor pilot and a nifty patch. Your new card will say intro on it.

We I am all ready a instructor. Well I teach the new people, and I am the only one well there are others but they just tell me to do it. So getting them to say I am capable is no problem and then I am willing to become one. You said contact ama? Do you have that site address or a number to call so i can give it to my club president or who ever?

thanks for you help

WELL, if you are instructing, WELL, I suppose youare a "certified" instructor.

There is no such critter in the AMA ranks as a certified instructor. Either you yourself, or your club may have such designation but that is all of it.

Vicman is fairly well confused about the Introductory Pilot Instructor program offered by the AMA. You can find the straight and accurate information on the web site or in your Club Secretary's Charter Kit.

Are you an AMA member? Is your club an AMA Chartered Club? If so then you have the address right there, and any phone number you might need is available in that magazine you receive each month, along with the website address.

If you want to become a "Certified Instructor", you'll have to find an organization that offers certification, and get their directions.

If you can't find one, you'll need to create one. When you do, publish here so others can avail themselves of the "Certification." It could probably be a profitable endeavor.

Or, just keep instructing and be happy!

Good luck,

Thanks for the insult. May I have another sir?

Or would you rather put your infinite wisdom and skill into helping people instead of talking down at someone.

Try just answering his question without the personal attack[&o]

As Hoss said, the closest thing AMA has to 'certified instructor' is Intro Pilot. 'How' is your club pays AMA five bucks to have you listed as an Intro Pilot. That's all there is to it. If your club by whatever criteria they may have established considers you capable of helping noobs get into the the air, you are qualified/certified by AMA if you or the club puts up the five bucks per year to send to AMA HQ.
You can do the same thing, limited to one buddy-box flight per noob in his/her lifetime (assuming your club is a real stickler for AMA roolz), without sending five bucks to AMA.

If you dig the rules even deper, you can let the guy fly there forever as long as he Doesnt join your club, or even the AMA.

You as an AMA member at an AMA club can step over to the non-ama pilots your club may allow to fly at your field, and give flight instruction from 1 modeler to another. The only thing that changes is the insurance if you go the IntroPilot route.

Tell the guy to grab some The Hartfod insurance for himself, teach him and let him fly at your club forever as a non-member. Remember, folks here dont want you to get folks to join AMA because it is required to fly at the club. Let him join AMA for the right reasons rather than the requirement of clubs.

What others see is not what makes a instructor:eek:;)
