Has the June issue of Model Aviation come out?

Yeah, I got mine a couple of weeks ago. I really didn't mark the date, since it's not much of a Red Letter Day for me. I saw it, and it immediately went to file #13. I don't even bother to open the first page any longer. Would I like to opt out? Not on your life. I want them to have to send it to me. The landfill needs the work.

Stick-
Dont throw them out.
They make terrific stacked weights for glueing LE sheeting to the Ribs. They take that curve really well if you line the binding up with the spars. They also come in handy lifting the tips when glueing dihedral braces. Not to mention laminating some sheet balse parts like doublers.... 5 or 6 inches of MA on top keeps things nice & flat

I find things of interest in most issues of MA, but I spend more time reading Flying Models.

Got my issue quite a while ago. Like Stick, it’s not really an occasion to remember as I too don’t find much to read between the covers. I do however stock pile them to hand out to kids when we have groups like boy scouts out to the field.

Maybe because I'm still fairly new at this, I find several things interesting in nearly every issue, including this one.

Yes, for almost 3 weeks now.

For you guys that belittle the magazine, you all know that I abhor the methods used to publish this magazine, yet there is very much modeling info within the magazine.

When one turns from real learned modelers like Bob Aberle, Dean Papas, Joe Wagner, Bob Angel, Stan Alexander, and several others, then that one is missing a lot of model aviation knowledge.

I get the PPP mag now... its neither thick enough nor frequent enough to make a good glueing jig.
And the modeling tips for newbies is to cut the plywood out of foam models and use a lipo batt half the size of spec ... all just to make the weight class with an over PPP limit model.

Yeah but it's kind of like riding a moped, or kissing your sister. It might be useful, but would you want anyone who knows you to see you doing it, or having it?

Of the magazines I get, I think Model Aviation is #2 as far as interesting reading goes. However to each his own.

Per the folks at AMA I should have received it by now and they are sending another copy.

Well, for one, I like the magazine. Having been in the hobby for so long, I've enjoyed the thrills of rubber competition, tow-line gliders, free-flight, U-control, and R/C - and it's interesting to me to read about all of these diciplines even though all I do now is giant scale R/C.

When I'm done with the magazines, I tear off the name labels, and take them to the local hospital. Lay them out on the end-tables at various places where people have to sit and wait. Go back a couple days later, and not one will be found. I believe that people not in the hobby find them so interesting that they take them home.

Jim, that's a wonderful thing you do. I bet some of your magazines go upstairs to someone's room at the hospital. Reading model magazines and planning the next build was probably the single best activity that got my dad through many long hospital stays.

Personally, I like RC Report best followed by MA. I usually find something worthwhile in most issues.

My favorite magazine is R/C Sport Flyer. They are doing a good job of become what they want to be; The World's most in-depth R/C Airplane Magazine! The magazine is a combination of what was Quiet Flyer and 3d Flyer. Pick one up maybe you'll like what you see.

I took R/C Report for one year and if it wasn't for Gordan Bank's anti-kit/anti building position, I might still be taking it. This position places him diametrically opposed to what I enjoy most in this hobby, which is the building portion. So, he made a choice and I made a choice!

I never noticed that he was against kits. I figured every magazine nowadays covers mostly ARfs. I've see the Sport flyer mag too and it seems good.
I don't know why some of the guys seem to dislike the AMA mag so much. Although I don't read every article every month, it seems to to a decent job of touching on all areas of the hobby.

Then hand it over to a child and see if they can spot the modeling in the magazine. Of course someone whose been around RC and modeling for a fractional millenium is going to notice a slight differnce in the way their eyes views modeling vs someone not as well seasnoed.

Support your org, hand the mag over to a kid. They'll see what you can't.

Dislike the AMA magazine? Naaahhhh

Model Aviation is one of the last with real building articles in it. I succeeded in this hobby by what I learned in magazines back in..... back around..... hmmmmm...... 50 some years ago I think it was. And every article by a real builder teaches me something more.

Anybody who can read can learn from good articles in magazines.

It's just a shame we got only a couple of magazines that still print building articles.

BTW, I'd like R/C Report more if they actually did what they claim and tell the whole truth about the ARFs they review. I've assembled a couple that they've reviewed and some glaring problems they missed bigtime. Maybe they simply didn't notice. Or maybe they never read Model Aviation or anybody else's construction articles.
