Subject: FW: ESPN First Take!

Morning all,

As you all are aware from the Marketing Committee report at the July EC meeting, we've partnered with JWalcher to develop opportunities to promote model aviation to the general public. We have recently been working with ESPN First Take, a show that runs daily on ESPN2 beginning at 10a ET. The First Take producers have specifically asked for some RC heli footage, and video of Andrew Jesky (one of our All Star Team members) flying at the XFC was forwarded to them. The video is tentatively scheduled to air this Wednesday, 8/6. This will most likely be just a couple of minutes of exposure but it's a good start and I'm sure will lead to bigger and better things. Having learned the hard way, scheduled content for magazines, radio, and television is pretty fluid so the clip may or may not get bumped to a later date but we've been assured that it will run even if it doesn't appear on Wednesday's show.

Thanks to our Marketing Committee and JWalcher for pulling this together. And special thanks needs to go to Fred Midgett and High Plane Productions for helping us out by providing the video of Andrew, and of course, to Andrew for doing his part.

Dave

PS. Please consider passing this along to your district team as an FYI.

Wonder what they have backwards? Andrew flys fixed wing in competition, unless they caught a clip of him fooling with a heli.

I agree. I covered this event for RCU. Andrew Jesky didn't compete in the heli events at XFC.

If interested, our coverage of the event can be found here:

sounds typical of the AMA staff to me. ask for heli footage, get fixed wing.
business as usual.

Guys, you are so quick to jump on something! Please read the statement again, "The First Take producers have specifically asked for some RC heli footage, and video of Andrew Jesky (one of our All Star Team members) flying at the XFC was forwarded to them."

Note: heli footage was requested AND video of Andrew Jesky flying at XFC.

At first I was abput to agree with you, but read it again with close parethesis

"The First Take producers have specifically asked for some RC heli footage, and video of Andrew Jesky () flying at the XFC was forwarded to them."

If they wanted Apples and Pears delivered
that is diferent than
They wanted apples, and pears were delivered

The 'was fowarded to them' makes it seem they wanted heli, and got Andrew.
Perhaps it was shots of Andrew on a heli, perhaps it is a simple slip of crediting the pilot of heli footage... but the way the sentence is phrased, the AND is not making a list of what they want

Well first off DM is not an AMA staffer, he's a part time and volunteer member. Since he was the one that sent the email, we can only assume it was his small mistake. Of course we could instead just take the thread off topic and instead of supporting the AMA we could just turn it into yet another crap shoot. Unreal ....

Seriously .... what has the AMA done to you people to make grown men act like 2 year olds in public.

Red,

Thanks for the heads up.

This is a great step forward and hopefully will lead to more!

Buzzz. Maybe you haven't heard but the new President has been ramping up member based committees.

Over the next several days AMA's Leader Members will be receiving a letter announcing a new AMA initiative called Membership Dynamic. The AMA Executive Council conducts much of its business through a system of committees. We also recognize that we have a tremendous resource in our more than 150,000 members. As a first step in this new initiative we are asking our members who have specific expertise in certain areas and are willing to volunteer some of their time by serving on one of our various committees to let us know. The form included with this letter provides a list of committees as well as space for a member to indicate an area of interest and additional space to outline their background in the given area. This form will also appear in the April issue of Model Aviation.

We expect to receive a significant number of replies and, of course, it is unlikely that we will be able to take advantage of every offer this year. However, all replies will be entered into a database for future consideration. Replies will be forwarded to the appropriate committee chairperson for consideration and, if selected, the committee chair will directly contact the member.

Hi Red,
Nope. No mistake. I didn't say Andrew flew a heli IN this year's XFC. I said the video of Andrew flying a heli was shot AT this year's XFC event. Filming took place at the IAC during XFC weekend and ESPN was sent exactly what they asked for.

If this is a quote, then please so state. Otherwise who is the, "We", that you are referencing? Do you (if you are a Park Pilot Program member)(I see that I must be very accurate when eliciting a response from you) expect to be included as a committee member? I really don't see how a PPP member would, since they have no voting privilidges, and it would follow, that there is no voice for them, other than what is put forth by either a Leader Member, or at least an Open Member. Just trying for clarification.

they got footage of Andrew on a heli

. . .

Folks, can we drop the derail attempt of arguing who DM is saying sent it,
and focus on the point that we are getting some positve RC footage on ESPN

It's not a quote, it from AMA's website. I guess you too haven't heard the progress the new President has been making.

Also who and where on earth did you read that PPP's cannot join a committee? You still don't realize what little privliages the PPP's are losing, which in return are getting in complete AMA focus and at a lower price.

Now can we stick to the topic of positive exposure for the AMA?

Without getting into the distribution & billing aspect of the CDs

Who put together the AMA sent RC dvd's mailed out years gone by?
Maybe we could use this new ESPN contact to blind send some footage of a big Event,
and invite them to film / have us submit footage of that event coming up this year as Sports News

First, you would have to be named to a Committee. Do you really think that the AMA is going to allow someone who has no voting priviliges to be a Committee Member? If they had wanted input from you guys, you would have been allowed to nominate, and to vote. You haven't figured it out yet, have you? Your voice counts for Nothing, Zip, Nada, Zero. If you don't like something, tough. You asked for it, and Pal, YOU GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
