ACORN
Was informed that a small group (of non-fliers) are talking to exec's of various clubs trying to get them to comitt to having ALL flying and ground vehicles powered by electric or wind. No I.C powered "what-so-ever", as the exhaust causes smog.
Only models meeting the requirements of having No I.C. powerplants will be permitted to be sold in stores. Any model vehicle then can only be exempted and used on very private property by owner then (provided he owns a lot in acreage). Wm. |

Yeah, that sounds like California, for sure!

Sounds like something that the ama oughta look into if ya ask me. I would think this would fall under their umbrella...

ORIGINAL: The Toolman Sounds like something that the ama oughta look into if ya ask me. I would think this would fall under their umbrella... From wiki: "ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is a community-based organization that advocates for low- and moderate-income families by working on neighborhood safety, voter registration, health care and other social issues." It is plausible that the actions described by OP could be on the agenda of this organization or a fringe group within it. Abel |
RE: ACORN
RC planes cause smog?
I guess we were wrong about cars this whole time :) Why do granolaheads always forget while gasoline come from oil (hydrocarbon) electricity come from coal (plain carbon).... the exaust pipe is just miles away. Perhaps the AMA will jump in on this and create a wPPP limited to electric models that can only be charged by Wind power... cause fire is bad and manufacturing photocells fom Cadmium, Arsenic etc is bad, and dont get them guys started on nukes:eek: heck, some granolas even griped about Hydroelectric dams being bad- "thermal" polution bothered fish with the water being too cold When Muncie gets into this, they need to do a lot of homework first. Its not ok to just become Green, you have to know just what shade of Green and not import Blood Kilowatts from exploitive countries ;) |

ORIGINAL: abel_pranger It is plausible that the actions described by OP could be on the agenda of this organization or a fringe group within it. Look at the guys comment: Was informed that a small group (of non-fliers) are talking to exec's of various clubs trying to get them to comitt to having ALL flying and ground vehicles powered by electric or wind. I'd be looking for the source of the information before I'd waste any time worrying about it. Lacking any credible source this has all the earmarks of an internet legend. OTOH, if it's real, it surely would make for some interesting reading. Provide some comic relief, anyway. :D |

ORIGINAL: RCKen What does this thread, and the thread title have to do with the AMA?? Ken If that does not satisfy you, then go read: http://www.modelaircraft.org/mag/Nov08/president.htm Lots of action going on right now. [:-] The OP has everything to do with AMA, Aeromodeling, and RC aeromodeling. |
RE: ACORN
ORIGINAL: KidEpoxy heck, some granolas even griped about Hydroelectric dams being bad- "thermal" polution bothered fish with the water being too cold Don't you love it when folks jump on electric power without thinking about where it comes from? Unless it's wind, solar, geothermal or wave powered someone's got to be burning something. And you're right....all those solar panels aren't without their own problems. Nuke is the way to go. ;) |
RE: ACORN
Bob
not arguing, but the reason I found it worthy to remember was that it was "Thermal Pollution" of deep water release bothered downriver fish for a mile or so. I do see what you are saying about the impellor action warming the cold deepwater some, but these guys are worried about a couple of degrees cooler rather than a real 20f drop There may be other gripes about Hydro, but I was just sharing this particular one on the Sacramento river by Shasta Maybe if Muncie installed $8.2mil of solar pannels they could power half an E-event :) Maybe AMA could draft a mandate that all E-planes run on solar generation rather than filling the dumps with NiCad/NiMh/LiXX batteries. Get the batteries out of the applications, and Epower gets alot lot Greener. Wont be too bad, we get what... 25w per sq foot of solar panel? That give like 100-150w for a 40sized plane with Solar pannel wings weighing it down? |
RE: ACORN
Maybe we can get the AMA to issue labels that say: "Certified Hydrocarbon Eco Model". That should take care of it.
ACORN= Another Communist Organization Radical Nuisance |
RE: ACORN
ORIGINAL: Hossfly Besides ACORN has donated $800,000.00 yankee dollars, along with hundreds of thousands of non-existing registered voters to a personality that will be very happy to shut down this awful model airplane tragedy for .... so few voters by comparison ... the betterment of socialist idiots, and crooks. The OP has everything to do with AMA, Aeromodeling, and RC aeromodeling. This ignorant nonsense should not be posted here. Moderator????? Do your job! |
RE: ACORN
How come you come in here yelling about something right off the bat? I notice in the last 100 posts or so of yours you haven't even been to the ama forum here. Did you just happen to land here out of boredom or what?

I will remind everybody here that RCU does not allow policital discussions within our forums. If this thread turns political, or people start posting political commentary about the current happenings in the US I will close the thread down.

RE: ACORN
No I.C powered "what-so-ever", as the exhaust causes smog. Maybe AMA could take the lead in bringing forth developement in Hydrogen fueled Tubine/Recip IC. Cause, as usual, the ilinformed bunk about all IC causing smog is hooey in a H2 to H20 burn... unless they want to declare that the ocean is the biggest smog producer on the planet making all that water vapor... making H20 smog we call "clouds" and "rain". Muncie has the ear of model manufacturers (or used to at least) maybe AMA can be the driving force on Hydrogen Power |
RE: ACORN
One of the biggest pollution gases is CO2, if everybody would quit breathing for a few years the trees an plants will clean it out of the air...LOL

RE: ACORN
The thermal pollution works actually 2 ways, there is a good side. In Fort Myers (Fla) the manatees swim upriver, and hang out all winter next to the powerplant, as the water the power plant dumps back into the river is termically polluted (means warmer). They are very sensible to the temperarures, specially cold temperatures, and die if the temps get lower than a certain degree. Of course the wost enemy they have are props (from the boats)... So, thanks to the pollution, they survive a lot better the mid winters of south Florida. Washington DC, on the other hand is a exceptional place. One would guess that with all that hot air they would have their own microcimate, but no, it gets cold 'n winter anyway, it even snows...

RE: ACORN
H-power is still electric. And up to this point they are still extracting the H by burning off natural gas. No real pick up in efficiency there yet.

RE: ACORN
From what I have been told the local group has not talked to the A.M.A. yet, they are talking to the current owner of the property, trying to get the 200 plus persons who use the property to become "green" or get off the property or get out of the state. The A.M.A. has not been spoken to directly by them, but some aero club member may have contacted them. This is taking some time over all too.
From what I have been told they don't like the emissions being put out by the 80 year old guys who run their teather cars mainly. I am assumed that they want all the campfires doused, only bicycles to use the area, the modelers to convert over to electric or build only sailplanes. Remember, that ignition is only good for five-ten minutes. Years ago, they got the change in once per week lawnmowers in that they said the crankcase polution in the twenty minutes they ran was equal to TONS of pollutants. How many TONS of pollutants does the average 1/2A or D size engine make? Wm. |
