Renewing On Website
I renewed my membership today and did it on the web. When you get to the part where you select your primary interests I noticed that Giant Scale was not an option. It seems the web site is out of date when compared to the current membership renewal notice that is on paper. It would be nice if the web site was updated so that members could more accurately indicate their interests. (I think there were several other areas that were missing too.)

It would also be nice if it was a lot easier to navigate also.

ORIGINAL: The Toolman It would also be nice if it was a lot easier to navigate also. Like a link that would take you straight to bylaws rather than going through \members only\membership\membership manual\....then 20 pages down. it's out of date and poorly laid out. Don't know whether it's budgetary restrictions or what. Won't ask you for any ideas, though. ;) |

Bob, I'm not a computer web page layout guy. I'd say that its just pure laziness that they haven't fixed it yet. We have complained on here an to them about it forever it seems like, but nothing ever gets done.

We have complained on here an to them about it forever it seems like, but nothing ever gets done. I'd tend to reserve judgement without some details of budget and manpower availability. There are 4 people in the IT group according to the website, one of which is currently vacant. One of those names has "website questions" so obviously he's involved to some extent. I have no idea whether the web design itself is farmed out or not. My experience is that it is more often than not, because it's usually cheaper that way than to employ the folks yourself. In any event, the site is poorly laid out, IMO. |
RE: Renewing On Website
4 peeps in IT?! That is 3.5 more than they need. 4 in IT to run what? My company has 4 in IT, over 500 servers, over a thousand users, etc. What on earth is the AMA doing with 4 in IT? Regardless, the AMA web site is horrible in my opinion. But, it wasn't always that way. Prior versions I thought were fine, but the current site if horrible to navigate thru. I can't find anything I need. It was obviously laid out by someone that doesn't understand the typical AMA web user. The AMA should be ashamed that they have no clue how the typical AMA member wished to use the site.

RE: Renewing On Website
They probably have 3.5 friends that needed a job, an since it isn't their $$ they are paying out, well you know how it goes.
It's easy to spend other peoples money. They are probably just following the Gov's lead...[sm=bananahead.gif] |
