AMA Question
Good evening all,
I have moved into St. Louis a few years ago, and am starting to get back into the whole flying thing. There are several VERY good fields here I would love to get an opportunity to fly at, but they all need an AMAmembership. now here's my question...... There are 2 levels of AMA membership - First is the Full AMA membership which runs about 58.00 bucks a year. - Second they have a park pilot program membership which only runs 29.99 a year Would the park pilot proram be a good enough membership to fly at the local fields here? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |
RE: AMA Question
You would need to contact the local clubs to determine there AMA membership requirements
|
RE: AMA Question
Keep in mind that the $29 Park Pilot membership has restrictions:Low, Slow, and No Glow
( below 200', under 2lb & 60mph, and no internal combustion engines) First you need to decide if your flying will fit the requirements for Park Pilot Program, because if you dont want to be in PPP then that should tell you which membership to choose. If you decide your flying will fit the PPP, then you can contact the local AMA chartered clubs and see if they accept PPP. AMA hq has left it up to each local club to allow PPP or not, so it may or may not be a problem finding a local club that accepts PPPs.... but it is likely you wont have a problem with the local club not letting in PPPs. My club didnt have a problem when I dropped down from $58 Open to $29 PPP.. |
RE: AMA Question
Thanks for the helpful suggestions guys,
right now my flying does fall under the PPP limits. I will be starting to contact some of the clubs today a little later on so we will see how THEY feel about letting in PPP people. When you sign up with PPP through the AMA - you still get a proper AMAnumber don't you? |
RE: AMA Question
Yep.
Our club doesn't accept Park Flyers because our agreement with the city cites the open membership insurance requirements (an agreement that was in place long before the park flyer program) so like KE said, it depends on the club. |
RE: AMA Question
Thanks for the great info.
I have sent out some e-mails to about 4 local clubs here in the St. Louis area. So now it is the ever popular game of hurry up and wait for a response - Again Thanks |
RE: AMA Question
At only $.15 a day the $58.00 is well worth it. My opinion of course.
