RAM --- That was good!
I have a right wing but I don't think you want it. And I have pieces of the left wing and I know you don't want that one.
The right one is repairable if you had enough balsa and CA. How bad is yours?

I have new right wing with the fiberglass tube. I'll sell it for $70 shipped. A new wing set costs 169.99 at tower, so this isn't a bad deal. If you want both wings, I have a complete wing set that i will sell for $140 shipped. If you need a new wing tube I have one of them too.

Regarding CA hinge failure. Of those of you who had them fail do you think the gap sealing process using monocote could have weakened them? When you used the iron to get the mono into the gap do you think you may have slightly melted the hinge plastic or hardened it making it less flexable?

Hi Guys,
Portugal has a Patty as well. Nearly finished. Moki 2.10, Bisson pits sil, hitec dig all round. Only negatives are: anti-totation pins were way out, colour of canopy way out. Mods are: Kavan hinges replaced to all surfaces. Looks the biz. Can't wait for the maiden.
Happy flying....Jam from the Algarve.

CA hinges.
I use Radio South CA hinges without a single failure. They are blue in color and work very well. They make a 1/4 scale size, that is what I use on all my aircraft.
My Patty is coming soon.[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying
Hi folks,
Glad to see this thread is up. I have a question for Walton, how are you hovering so easily? I have had a heck of a time when attempting to hover because she seems to like to snap violently and tip stall randomly when prop hanging. Have you experienced this type of behavior in past flights? She also starts to torque immediately and rapidly once she is on her verticle axis. I cant figure it out.
One thought I had was that maybe I have too much elevator and/or rudder throw. I'm pulling 45 degrees on both, the bevels touch at high rates. Is this too much? I had a friend that puts his 48%'s on the deck all day long and was having problems keeping my extra stable. She is VERY eratic during 3D maneuvers.
Also, I have a brand new LEFT wing available for purchase.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying
Lot's of practice. Mine will to tourque rappidly if I keep it verticle very long, try to keep the nose tilted fowarg a bit and it will help on that. I have as much throw as I can get with about 35% expo on high rates. I also had to add about 1 more degree of right thrust to the motor. My cg is set where the manual. Check and see where yours is, that could make it snap if it is too far back. Hope this helps.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying
Hey guys, just wanted to get a quick opinion on the servos i have installed on my P.W.
If i had it to do over i would have probably gone with the hitech digitals... However i purchaced this plane about 6 months ago and i have just started assembly about 2 weeks ago. I am finishing up the engine installation now(DA 50) so it is getting close to her maiden. After purchaceing the plane i pieced equipment together and went with Tower Hobbies T-S 65 high torque servos all around Except for throttle and remote choke i am using standards. I will be running them on a 6volt 2700ma pack to get the extra speed and torque. at 6 volts they claim to have 92.0 oz./in. @0.13sec/60. also is it true these are actually Futaba servos? And do i need to use a regulator with that 6v. pack? I have a bad habbit of overly researching things and i want to see how these things should hold up. This is my first GAS progect so i do not plan on flying her to violently just yet. Any comments will be appreciated!!!! Thanks. Dave23

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying
The TS-65 are ok, I can't remeber if they are Futaba or Hobbico.
I would go with a something a bit better on the rudder. I have TS-65's on my SS-bipe. They stripped out on a crash. Yes, it was a crash, but it only broke the firewall amd cracked the front of the wing, the ailerons were untouched. Later the entire tail fluttered right off as the servos stripped out (they were a different Tower servo but similar.) Funny the bipe kept flying with no tail. Just porpused (sp) around. I thought I was going to be able to get it down. Suddenly at 20' it nosed straight up then down.
I used a single 5625 on the rudder. If I remember right, it is something like 120oz/in at 6v. Using a single one on rudder was simpler. I don't do heavy 3D, but if I did I'ld use two digitals on the rudder.
The TS-65's are ok, but you have a big engine there. This plane can snap real hard. I once did a blender and accidently hit full throttle, when I threw in rudder. It went from full speed to flat spin almost instantly. The G's must have been horrendous. I would not think the TS-65's would have withstood such abuse. I would use 6v and I don't think you'll need a regulator.
mine has Hitec 645's on ailerons, 5625 on rudder, and 625's on elevator. I will replace the elevator servos with 5625's (for more accuracy and symmetry.)
Keep an eye on the 65's for any play. You should do ok, but I would not trust them for heavy use.
On the rudder I use metal gear servos if possible. Mainly as that big rudder seems to find door jambs when you are carrying it.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying
Ram3500-RCU,
I met you at Hobby People today..Plane looks great. I did want to tell you to reconsider the Hitec 425s for the elevator on the wagstaff. Go with the545 or greater...and run a 6 volt system. The 425s will not be able to handle a 18 lb plane..It would make us all sick if the $70.00s in saveings would cost you all that plane...
PLEASE Reconsider....
Question? is it your plane in the pic from SLINGSHOT-RCU...did you change your name ?..
Good luck

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying
Shenian... Thanks for your reply. i figured they should be o.k. to get going on this plane... Like i said i had no plan to go wild on this thing just yet. On her maiden thru this fall i plan on just pattern flying to get aquainted with this larger plane, after i feel ready i will probably upgrade to hitech digitals... The t-65's are installed already. If all goes well i plan on building the aeroworks 33% Edge for Christmas. I will apply what i have learned into that plane. I also plan on a 1/3 scale G.P. Pitts for my son as well... Should be a pretty exciting spring this coming year!!!! Thanks again for your opinion!! Dave23

OK Guys-For you guys that have changed the tank from the kit supplied version, which one did you use and will it fit into the stock compartment ?
Also, there was a post on a guy with a slick, scale like, fuel dot he was selling, but I can't wade through thousands of posts to find it again. Anybody know who it is ? Thanks-Mike Oberst

Haven't changed my nane. Ya may have us mixed up. I use 5645s on my elevator and do have 6vs pushing everything. My plane looks about the same less the hole where the velocity stack is, all though that doesn,t look bad, i just haven't seen the need to open it up. Mine does just fine with inturnal air.

I have a 3W50 on my Patty. I have moved the fuel tank aft which has left the hole in the main firewall. The carb is so close that it is spitting fuel back in the fuse. I am afraid if I plug the hole it will not allow enough air to the carb. Any suggestions? Thanks John
