I got very lucky yesterday.. A friend gave me a Seagull Arising Star Arf.. I have been sort of looking for a trainer type plane to put together this summer when my son comes out to visit.. He wants to spend a bit of time building a plane and learning to fly...The Arising Star should fit the bill ..He also gave me a .45K+B Sportster Engine that looks in niceshape...There would not be enough time to build a plane so assembeling an ARFwill give us time together in the shop and help to satisfy his building bug...I dont knowanything about this K+B motor..It has a wierd drive shaft that threads out like a stud.. I have never seen that before..I guess I shouldbench run this motor to make sure that it will be trouble free when the time comes because time will be limited...I am kind of excited about the time I will be sharing my hobby with one of my Sons..

The stud was a standard K&B thing, if it's bent it's cheaper to replace than a crankshaft.
The whole Sportser series .20, .28, .45, .61, 1.00 were built to be cheap to make, special aluminum with hi silicon content made it so the didn't need bushing or sleeves. I had a few, none where very good, you got it at the right price

Thats exataly what I am thinking..I am so happy he is showing interest..When he was a little guy he spent hours with me in my shop...He was always with me ..I would make little hand toss planes out of scraps for him to play with and he was so carefull with them he would almost never break them..His big brother would or his sisters but he would be so carefull. The only time he almost did was the first time he made up the stairs to my shop..He was maybe two yrs old...He saw the fuse of a Piper Tri Pacer I had sitting onthe floor and he thought it was a ridem toy...I heard this cracking sound as he sat down on it..I SaidOh no Jake thats not a toy its very breakable and not for sitting on...He never broke anything in my shop and thats pretty good for a little kid...He is 30yrs old now...I guess this is silly for me to talk about on here but I am just so darn excited to have a son showing some interest...Sorry to anybody that I may upset in anyway...
