Default B/H Westland Wyvern 50 cc

Hi I have been campaigning the Westland Wyvern over here in the Uk this season with good results the best being placed 2nd at the 2013 BMFA British Nationals scale flying only .. The model is powered by a fully enclosed Laser 300v I have replaced the fixed tail gear with a homemade retract near scale unit . I at present retro fitting Near scale Wyvern Oleo's mounted on robart air units to save time here posting pic's is a link to my RCMF forum posts link is page 2 includes some flying videos too The wyvern looks like it would be a right handful to fly in fact it is the complete opposite very smooth and stable flight characteristices.. landings full flap easy ..

Default Westland Wyvern

Update My B/H 1/6th stand off scale Westland Wyvern after its Winter makeover Has now flown the power unit is a Laser 300v f/s made in England this produces very very little vibration essential I feel for artf constuctions If you want the model to last a few seasons ... Unless a lot of reinforcing is undertaken to take the single cylinder 50cc thumpers .. scale oleos made the ground handling & tracking much better.. flying pic's soon Representation of WP 337/378-J a 830 squadron Wyvern based aboard HMS Eagle during 1956 . A mk2 aircraft brought up to a S4 std .. also flown from RNAS Ford (HMS Peregrine) , West Sussex UK near me ..

Thank's for the kind comment Tom . I/ was am a plan & scratch builder for 40 +years most models have been scale Spitfire, Hurricanes, Tempest Mustangs when I saw this Westland Wyvern I just had to have it As it is so Different. It is my 2nd artf I flew it in scale comps here in the UK last season placing 2nd in the British Nationals/. so over winter I have refurbed the fuselage using glasscloth replaced the olieo's, Fitted a retracting tail wheel added some scale detail Includind a Static contra rotating propeller for stand off scale comps + a repaint the paint masks & stencils from Flightline Graphics...Reflown this weekend power is a Laser 300 This purposeful looking model is a Joy to fly .

Smile B/h Westland wyvern

Update re my Black horse Westland wyvern reworked to standoff scale I remade the static propeller unit & flying spinner size to 6-1/4 inch dia from 4-1/4" dia after the 2014 nationals to improve the front side view fault being spinner undersize pointed out by judges.. Wilst still the Static Judges do not seem to like the Wyvern , ref the realisum marks ... the overall static marks were lower than 2014 results .. The public & fellow competitors however took great interest in the model asking many questions this year , So maybe its because it's a Reworked artf model not scratch built is the reason for the it was last in the static marks again, but has great presents in the air & so gained its Highest marks with its stand off scale Flying competiton points 100% ... & so it & myself were Placed 3 rd in it's class in Bronze position At the 2015 BMFA British Nationals

.... "Well look you here", It's not every day your model makes the front page .

So Dispite the static judge scores , Vindicatication of all the inprovements to the original Black horse airframe .... onwards & upwards with upgrades Io lose external links to flying surfaces.. & work on a working controtating prop unit . + plans for a true scale Wyvern 1/6th scale version 3D drawings are well in hand..
