PhoenixModel 1:4 1/4 Scale Tucano?
Has anybody seen the attached video link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoo03jpeJmc
It is mentioned as a Volcano but looks like a Tucano to me.

I should have this kit in my workshop in the next couple of weeks. Going to size it up for my Wren Turboprop which is supposed to be roughly equal to a 75cc gasser...looks really nice in the video time will tell !!!

Love to build on of this Tucano but with gas power.
What you think about DA85 with Slimline muffler ?? Maybe we have to cut the bottom of cowl but nothing else.
Does anyone has the dimensions of the cowl ?

Yes, maybe.....
My only concern is that a turboprop as 7,5HP and can run a CARF Tucano with only more 4" span and this DLE 55 RA only 5,5HP.....
I will wait for more build and flight reports to decide and maybe another colour scheme from Phoenix.

I think a 55 or 60 would be just fine for this plane.

I have just finished installing my Wren 44 TP into the Tucano...very simple modifications and it went in easily. I have a mate flying one with an OS 55GT fitted and it flies perfectly with that size engine I will try and post short video clip of flight.

If anyone is interested I will write an outline of how the firewall was modified and will post some internal fitup pics of where all the equipment is mounted to achieve almost zero ballast for correct C of G. Cheers Rene

Hi Boltman
As soon as I figure out how to convert the mov files taken on my iphone to a format I can upload to utube it shall be done...suggestions anyone?
The airframe seems fairly sound it's constructed from 100's of interlocking plywood parts. As with most asian kits the ply is average at best as is the assembly adhesive so check over and apply cyano/hysol as you see fit. Everything fitted together quite well but toss the ball links away and use HD Du-Bro or similar as the supplied ones are not a tight fit.
Retracts at a glance look strong and well machined ... time will tell as to how durable they are. The GT55 powered version used the supplied wheels where as my turboprop conversion has gone to Intairco jet wheels and brakes which required me drilling out the bottom of the struts for a larger axle...not a big deal.
Cheers

The cowl measures 210mm at the rear widest point and is 270mm high. Length from front to back is 260mm.
The engine mount is setup for the OS 55GT and it bolted straight in so use the 55GT backplate to spinner dimensions to compare with 60GT. The 60cc being rear intake you may have to open up the firewall to allow the carb clearance and you can slide the cowl fore and aft a fair bit to allow for different engine lengths.

Tucano on approach and landing
All these videos were shot on the first test flight of the aircraft at my mates private model strip on his rural property in Pahiatua, New Zealand. As you can see the OS 55GT is ample power and flies the aircraft at a very comfortable speed with good vertical performance...remember it's a scale aerobatic model not a ballastic pattern ship
Excuse the footage it was shot with a hand held Iphone 4s...not bad considering

I mounted a DLE55 Ra, I will have to put in 1.4kg tip to get the cg described in the manual, with OS 55GT how much weight you put on the tip to get the cg ?.
thanks

I'm also interested how your friends balance came out on the 55, any weight needed?
