I would be more inclined to go with the larger diameter prop...you have a pretty big cowl to push air past...

Just my thoughts...Mark

My magnum .52 will turn a 12x5 just fine, but you might want to try a wide blade if using the 12x4 or 11x5 props. The bigger prop will also act more like a air brake when landing so watch the throttle when coming in.

I been using a MVVS .77 2-stroke in my Sukhoi and love it! Been using a 14x6 and just swapped to a 15x4 last weekend. Massive pulling power and it accelerates going vertical... I totally love this plane and to think I got it for free....! Cant beat that

I flew my sukhoi today, this plane is pretty sweet!, it flies like it's on rails and handles like a porsche. Even thou I had the throws way too high, I still felt comfortable at the sticks. The plane came out to 5.5 LBS with the MDS .48 in it, (4) HS-422 & (1) HS-605, 6v 1800MAH pack. I reinforced the wheelpants with a ply-plate, added a plywood wing bolt plate, pull-pull rudder, I also made the leafspring tail wheel that believe it or not is actually lighter than the stock one. I ran into problems with the engine but resolved them and had time left for two good flights, the MDS is running a 11x6 and goes just about vertical, tomorrow I will try an 11x5 and see what happens. For the sport flying I do the engine size is fine, infact I spent most of the flight at 1/2 throttle with full power in the up lines only. "Thumbs Up" for Phoenix models for a super affordable arf that looks great and performs excellent too. I can see now why others are saying that they wish they bought two! Here's some pic's,

Default RE: Phoenix Models Giles 202 and Sukhoi ON SALE!!!!

g'day all,

about 50% of the way through my Su31 now. Looking at how to mount my Saito 72. Couple of questions - would appreciate any feedback from those who have mounted a Saito 72 in this beast.

1. The hole pre-drilled in the firewall - is that the centreline reference for the engine thrust line ? This is somewhat off centre -is this normal ? If so, why ?
2. Is the standard 45 degree mounting (inverted to lower right) best for the Saito72? I see that this may allow the exhaust to exit at bottom of cowl.
3. Did you use the standard 45 deg mounting line - or a new reference line ?
4. Is it essential to get the engine as close to the firewall as possible ? I am looking at a Dubro anti-vibe mount but this may lead to a mounting 1inch forward compared to a normal mount. It looks like this may be an issue for cowl mounting (engine too far forward making the cowl look weird??) and perhaps CoG ???
5. Finally - did anyone use a Pitts style muffler ? Brand ??

Any feedback would be post appreciated
