Default H9 Ultra Stick

Anybody have a good engine prop combo? I'm using a DLE 35 with 18x10. Even with greased landings, clearance is only about 1&1/2 inches, and even in grass, one bump and the prop is chipped/broken. Was thinking of taller gear or dropping to a 16x12.

Any thoughts?

Do you like the flight performance as it is? If so, going up an inch in the wheels would give you another 1/2 inch of clearance.

I thought of that, and you saying it just reaffirmed my suspicion that that's the way to go. I thought of going with a smaller prop like a 16x12, but figured bigger wheels might be the better choice. Not sure if they'll fit under the wheel pants tho. I guess the extra money I'd pay for wheels and bigger pants is still less than cracking props every few landings!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Perhaps a taller landing gear? The stick is no speed demon, you may like the performance even better with a 20x6. I’ve bought a few landing gears from this outfit including one for the 35% Edge I’m currently building. Good quality but does take about 3 weeks to arrive.

That was my initial thought and next stop. Taller landing gear, almost ordered some from Graphtech. But then I thought the props are only getting shaved by about a 1/2 inch or so, IF that, so bigger wheels should do it. Its cheaper and less of a change. Good to see I'm thinking right though!

By the way, I don't know about other sticks, but the way I have my stick set up, it's pretty fast. It's keeping up with glow Patriots and 35%s with100cc+

That's why I asked if you liked the flight performance you're getting with your current prop. If you wanted more speed or a quicker revving engine, going down an inch in your prop would do it and solve your clearance problem.

Lol, yeah, nice. A 50cc engine on a 30cc plane. That's how we do it at our field too!! I notice you have after market gear on, not the stock feat that comes with the plane. And no wheel pants. Seems we're of the same mind, I finally accepted that's what I will have to do. And you just confirmed it.

Looks good too!

Thanks, and it will hover all day at 1/4 throttle.! Notice I added tail brace wires and reinforced and pinned the firewall...

I did notice that, was thinking if doing it to mine too, most flat/non-airfoil stabs it's a good idea. Good work!

just bend the stock gear inwards, and you will get lots of clearance.
