Hey,

Looks good!

Just a note, you really didn't have to strip the wing. I sent mine right through the band saw, covering and all. I then just recovered the trailing edge of the wing and the leading edge of the flap. Same deal with the servo hatch, cut out the square and left the covering in place.

But you're obviously having more fun than me!

Also, glad to say I have finally put the maiden flight (and six subsequent flights) on the cessna (only took 3 years!!!).

Flies great. Flaps have the same effect as they did on the top flite 82" version I built. You will need to mix in down elevator to get it to avoid balooning up when you deploy them.

Nice slow passes over the runway with the flaps down.

Have fun, post more pics when you get more work done. I like how you went even more scale looking than I did, rounding the top leading edges. Nice.

I Stripped the whole of the wing as I`m recovering in a different scheme.I`ve also completly stripped the fuselage too!

Will post some more pics as I go.

Glad that she flew well with flaps deployed. What % of down elevator did you mix in- 12-15%?

Cheers

Steve

I have not done the mix yet so I have no idea. I know that at full deflection which was probably about 70 degrees of flap, the plane shot into a straight vertical climb and stalled. I was just doing this for testing at about 4 mistakes high, it was way too much flap for normal use but I just wanted to see what it did.

I have a JR 378 radio with the flap switch that is like a digital trim (beep beep beep) and if I deployed them one beep at a time while also slowing the plane down, it flew good enough that I probably won't mix in down elevator. I only used about 45 degrees of flap at the most for actual slow passes and landings. Did not try them on takeoff but maybe next time.

If you are going to slap them down quickly just be prepared to keep it from doing an impromptu stall turn.

Bill, the pics are on page 2 of this thread. Good luck with the mod, it is very easy to do. It adds a lot to this model. I did it on mine in about an hour.

I also want to thank everyone for their replies. I want to add flaps as well. My question is about the connections to the receiver. The attached pic shows the layout of the radio and receiver and the inputs. I want to make sure I get this right:

Channel 1 is for connecting the right flap and right aileron. I assume this is down with a "Y" splitter? Channel 6 is for the left flap and left aileron - "T" connector. I'll use the "Flap knob" since there is no 3 position switch and will also config the Elev - Flap mixing.

I think I got it. If I have missed anything or need correction please let me know.

Use a Y-cable for both Ailerons and Flaps, but put both ailerons on channel 1 and flaps on channel 6.

Gotcha, that makes more sense then how I was reading it. Boh ailerson connected with a "Y" to channel 1, flaps connected with a "Y" to channel 6.

One more question:
Will this servo work for the flaps? ($9.99)?

Test Flew the Cessna yesturday, flies great!

Its interesting and I`m aliitle puzzled as there was no pitch change with flaps deployed.I had 2 settings,10% and 30%.Plane comes in nice and slow. The plane flies scale on the Saito 56 although not overpowered.
