callen,
I've been out there for the past two days flying my Jav. What time do you think you'll be there, I'd like to see an electric Sukhoi?

Well got the Sukhoi up today for the third time and all the problems are ironed out. Took it easyand flew for about 6 minutes. Had enough battery left for about another 4 mi without pushing them. CG is at 5 inches but as I get some time on her I will be moving it back. She flies great with no trim inputs. Will get a little braver with her as time goes on. Sweet airplane. Walt, it was great meeting you today. Hope to see you again soon.

Charlie,
Ditto. Your Sukhoi looks and performs great as an electric. I'm afraid that mine will be retired after one last try to keep the engine running cooler. If the airscoop doesn't work, I'm going to use that radio gear in my H9 27% Extra with a DA50.

Has anybody found a lightweight, reasonably-priced dummy engine to use as a cowl baffle? Also, for those with a 1.60FX with Cline regulator, are you using medium fuel tubing per Cline's recommendation or large tubing as on a non-pumped 1.60?

Thanks

I'm running the 1.60fx without any pump on medium line without any problems. Actually this engine is probably the sweetest engine I currently own except for my gassers.

I just realized the stock 3" spinner isn't going to work with my OS 1.60 and APC 18x6W. What is the best bang-for-the-buck spinner for this prop, considering price and the amount of cutting required?
Thanks

Get a Tru-Turn with the 1.20 cut. Pretty sure that's what I'm using on mine. A 18-6 APC fits up fine with no trimming at all. Check out the options with Tru-Turn or at Towers web-site. The Dave Brown spinner would not work without a lot of trimming, so I sent it back to Tower & exchanged it for the Tru-Turn.

Has anyone put a small gas motor on this plane. I have a CG Sukoi with a Saito 150. Flies pretty good on 30 % but getting tired of spending $24.00 a gallon and cleaning up the mess. Also the Saito drinks that 30% up quick. I have a G 26 that I am going to try and install. Just wondering if anyone has done this. I have a G 26 on my CG Pitss Monster and it flies it pretty good. I know it is going to up the weight but I figure if the pitts could handle it, the better flying characteristics of the sukoi could also. Any comments.

heres mine with a fuji-imvac 32ei,auw is 13lbs,lands like a trainertakeoff roll is just before half thrott, never had it past 2/3 thrott, btw this was'nt the arf it was the original cg-mx27 i aquired in a trade and totally stripped her down and resheeted the wing and added the extra integrety to the firewall to handle the gasser, recovered in ultracote, each ele. has its dedicated servo(80in.oz.tor)rudd is pull pull in the rear also(130in.oz.tor) as is the thrott servo(stantard)has 80in.oz.tor servos for ail.also i run a 6 volt batt thru a reg. and a 4.8v 700mah batt for the ei

btw,i only carry a 10oz. tank and fly for 20 min. easyand no clean up! the g-26 will work out real nice, just do the mods up front to handle holding up the x-tra weight of the gasser,as i stated i had to move all servos other then the ail. to the rear(even the thrott servo )to balance out the weight up front,go for it you wont be dissapointed,i also only have 4 flights so far for it was a winter project but i got to sneak in a few days when it was around 50,so i have'nt even begone to wring her out yet, heres another pic with the latest out of the shop, the rare bear, have yet to maiden her yet, shes got a st-2300 under the hood[X(]and weighs in dry at 10.5lbs[X(]

I flew my CG Sukoi with the G26 today. All I can say is I am real happy with it. Basher you were right it flies great with the G26. I watched the rpm improve throughout the day I flew the plane. I swithched out between my Pitss Monster with a G26 and the Sukoi. I got about 12 flights till it started getting too dark to fly. What is so sweet is I probably burned less than a $1.50 worth of gas.

easton,
I flew mine with an MVVS 26cc gas and their tuned pipe and was very happy with the way it flew. I had some problems keeping the engine cool because the Sukhoi cowl has so much room, only the sparkplug cap stuck out. The MVVS also has a front carb and relatively small cooling fins. I finally made a scoop to direct air to the head and cylinder, and that cured the problem. Unfortunately, I had a hit on my radio and augered it last week. I wouldn't hesitate to build another Sukhoi with the little gasser. I liked the plane and it looks fantastic !!!!

Do you think the 26cc is more powerful than the OS 160FX? I was thinking about putting in an Evolution 25cc in a plane silimar but was worried the engine would shake the frame to pieces. The Sukhoi frame is pretty light as it is. My OS 1.60 is very smooth so I never worried about stress, but how is the gasser?

Stamper,
No, the 26 gasser would not be as powerful as your 160FX, even with the tuned pipe. My gasser turns a 16x10 prop at about 8300 rpms. There is some vibration with it but it's not too bad. I balance the props carefully. I did have to strengthen the motor box. It was not glued very well and came cleanly apart on the first prop strike. If you can keep your plane weight to 10 pounds it will 3D. My Sukhoi came in at 13.5 #s and had good power for aerobatics but not 3D. The ads say you can build it at 9-10 #s but I can't see how. I'm putting that motor in a Hangar 9 Funtana 90, and at 10 #s or so, it should rock. It also has more wing area than the CG Sukhoi. But that CG Sukhoi just looks so good !!!!!!!! I will have another. Some guy with a Saito 180 had overheating problems like me. Has anyone else had this problem ?

No I have not had any overheating problems. I used to have a Saito 150 in the plane. The motor box did come apart on me luckily it was on the ground. I ended up fiberglassing it. It is pretty rock solid now. Right now I was flying with the 16-8 wood prop but am switching it to a 18-6 apc wide. I have this setup on my CG Pitts Monster and it was spinning the 18-6 wide 8700. I flies it pretty good. So I am going to try it on the Sukoi now. I can already see the Sukoi took to the G26 better. It flies pretty good with the 16-8 now. I am guessing because less drag on the Sukoi than the Pitts. The club I am a member of is having their Spring Big Bird Fly In this weekend so probably wont get to fly too much this weekend.

Hello callen, my setup is as follows:
Actro 32-5 with 18-12 APC e-prop
Jeti 77 Opto esc
8S 4000mah Kokam lipos
The system is delivering about 1850-1900W at 68-70 amps

This is the setup I will fly on next. It first flew with a Biela 3 bladed 18-10 that I had from my gasser times and it flew great on that prop a bit slow though (but I didn't use all the power as the lipos are relatively new). It gave me roughly over 2kW at a little over 70 amps but I have now received the e-APCs so I will try those on it. I tested the apc 18-10 and gave me 1750W at 62 amps, the 19-10 gave me 1870W at 69 amps and the one I am planning on using the 18-12 delivered 1850W at about 69 amps, and this was done with the lipos at about 60% capacity so it should go a bit over 1900W with full batteries.

What do you think??

I will fly it tomorrow morning, I hope.

Well, I asked too much out of the Actro, I overheated it and is on its way to Germany for repair[]. Fortunately the plane was going a bit fast and landed with no problems so the Sukhois is intact. I am also receiving in a couple of weeks the Actro 40-4 which should give me the performance I am looking...
I will post as soon as my plane is ready to fly again.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just recently decided to get back into scale aerobatics again. I usually only fly pattern. I have always liked this plane as a kit though I have never owned one. I had my local hobby shop order me one and below is the parts list.

Goldberg Sukhoi
YS 160 DZ
Tru-Turn 3in Spinner
Mejlick 18x10
Hyde Firm Idle "C" Soft engine mount
Central Hobbies "NMP inline Muffler"
Tettra 20oz fuel tank
Hitec HS6965 HB corless digitals on the ailerons elevators
Hitec HS6975 HB corless digital on the rudder
Hitec HS5245 Digital mini on the throttle
Dubro Control horn sets for all surfaces
Duralite 2800mAh Li-Ion battery
Jayco 5.7v voltage regulator
Sulivan tailwheel

All up weight is 11.09 lb
CG is at 5 1/8th

Maidened the plane yesterday. Take off was uneventful, the plane only needed 3 clicks of down and 1 click of right aileron. I have all controls setup for sequence flying. For example Max thow on high rate elevators is 25 degrees, low rate is 12 degrees up and down.

The plane flies very true. Very little pitch or roll coupling in knife edge. The DZ is a monster on the plane. I think the highest throttle setting I had in a vertical was just over half throttle. I hope to get some more trim flights on it this week. Should be lots of fun.

I built a goldberg Sukhoi from a kit and it flew great until some flutter caused the rear stab to break and the plane went in hard. I'm thinking about building this arf. Tower has them now for 299.00. Is this plane a good flyer?
