I mounted a Saito 72 in mine. The following is what I did and it worked for me, your mileage may differ. First,reverse the carb so that the throttle lever is pretty much down the center of the firewall. Next move the engine forward just a hair to make sure that the carb does not hit on the back of the motor mount. I moved mine only a quarter of an inch farther forward then the instructions called for and that made the carb clear the mount. I was then able to drill an oversized hole for the throttle linkage. The plane balanced at 4 3/8 in. with no additional weight required.
IMHO this plane is the best bargin I have found, for the money I'm using a 14x4 Master Airscrew prop and 15% Cool Power. On #D rates the plane will do anything you ask. Go to the sport rates and you have a sport plane. Hope this helps

I'm with you Don, I was very dissapointed in this one myself. I expirienced all the same flight characteristics and just didn't care for the plane. Thought it would be a better Pizazz, now I think the Pizazz was the better of the two.

I just dropped the .72 with the suplied mount, I had to trim a little off the mount but not much. It came out slightly nose heavy, but not a problem. It's not as good as a real light, more expensive 3D ship, but it's a lot of fun for close-in stuff.

Thx for the reply. I came to the same conclusion as you replied but I had already drilled the motor mount. Thats what happens when you read the instructions! Think I'll have to replace the mount. There will be 2 sets of holes pretty close together if I don't. I'm glad to here it balances out after you move it forward. How goes yours fly. I'm reading all sorts of negative stuff. Also, do have OK ground clearance with the 14 x 4 and the stock landing gear?

Gentleman,
Seen one at the local hobby shop and thought, "how could you go wrong for a hundred bucks?" It went together fast and the quality is good. I installed an old trusty Rossi .45 with mini pipe. It did fly similar to the Pizzaz and is nice that the wing is removeable. But as some before me have written, I am not sure it is worth writing home about. I will fly it some more before retiring it. My son does like to fly it, I prefer my U Can Do .46 for hovering, however this plane will snap better. More later.

I took mine out to the flying feild today hoping the wind would die down. I flew my sport plane for awhile waiting for the gusts to calm. Well no flying the twist but I did manage to take a picture of it. Has futuba 3003 servos and a Thunder Tiger pro .46

Got mine all together with a Saito 72 and the stock mounts without dremeling anything -- I just moved the engine out abit and all was well -- balances at 4 3/8th's with no extra weights. Havent flown it yet (hopefully tomorrow) will let you know --

Dont mount the motor until last ...build the whole plane completely...use a rubber band to hold the motor in place ...then you can move the motor for or aft to get the CG just right..Or at least close....JW

Why not move the engine out farther. I mounted a YS .63 in mine, which I think is heavier than the .72 and the plane is still a touch tail heavy with the battery pushed all the way forward.

That sounds like a good idea on mounting the engine last. Has anybody used a Sullivan tail wheel instead of the stock one? I just mounted mine and it looks AWESOME!!![8D]

YUP! I use that tail wheel on all my planes. I hope you lined up the hole on the bottom of the fuse where the Antenna comes out!

I made sure that the front hole lined up with the antenna exit hole so I can still use it. Do you recommend using the spring to attach it to the rudder (small or large spring), or do you think that it works without it as a castering tail wheel?

Use some small screws to attach the canopy guys, heat and fuel residue will loosen the glue and off it'll go! The Saito .72 is the hot set-up for this one.

Great Job Looks Perfect!
I would use the small spring for better control on the grass. Castering on pavement would work okay.
I drill a small hole into the bottom of my rudder, Bend the end of the wire about 1/4 inch
and slipped it into the hole.
Drip some thin CA to harden the wire into the wood and to fill the hole.

We flew ours for the first time last night and it flew great with an O.S. 46 FX. Although it needed alot of weights on the nose and one on the left side of the wing, it flew nicely. it going to be my new plane.

Quick question for those already flying their Twist....
On the positioning of the ailerons: did you make them level with the top of the wing (i.e. continued the line of the wing surface) or did you position them in line with the leading edge to trailing edge line?
Just curios as to which is better.

OK, after reading posts on the Twist for the past week, I was beginning to think I had made a mistake by trading my Funtana for this plane. But after tonights maiden flight, I have definitely changed my mind! THIS PLANE ROCKS!
Me and a buddy stayed up late the night I got it to put it together in about 5 hours...this plane is a piece-of-cake to assemble!
I stripped all the gear out of the funtana to use in the Twist....Saito 100, hitec 605's in the tail, futaba 3004's on ailerons.
I was worried about the 100 being "too much" for the airframe with all the posts of everyone complaining about the tight fit of the .72, but the 100 bolted right in...no major modifications. We just spread the engine rails a bit to make the 100 fit. Piece of cake!
I was also worried about balance with all the posts of having to add weight to the tail....with the 100, I was expecting a major fight....but mine came out at 5" back from the LE with NO WEIGHT ADDED. We just slapped it together, put the battery right in front of the throttle servo, and the RX behind....no problems.
Then for the test flight....this thing flys AWESOME. On the very first flight, after a few circuits to get it trimmed, I was trying harriers and hovers! Harriers were a little tough to get in to cause of all the power on the nose, but once it slowed down enough, there was hardly any wing-rock and it actually reminded me a bit of my flat-plate foamie planes. Hovers/torque rolls were easy to get into and hold....easier than even my Funtana. Knife edge wanted to tuck to the belly, but this is expected and can be mixed out. A few more flights and I'll have the coupling dialed out.
Flat-spins were crazy.....upright, perfectly flat, and actually started climbing! Knife-edge spins would wind up like crazy, and again, virtually no loss of altitude. Water-falls could be tighter, but this may be more of a throttle juggling thing than a problem with the plane. I need to try a few more. Walls were awesome, it would pop straight up with no fuss, and no tendency to snap...but with that wide wing, I would have been shocked if it did snap.
Bottom-line...this is an ubelievable plane for $100!!!

Some people are having great luck with this plane doing 3D, some are not, I am NOT. I've turned it into a sport flyer. Even with the big control surfaces there is no sign of flutter. I had it out yesterday in a strong wind 15-20 mph, down wind, flat out, coming out of a dive, 13-6 prop, on a screamin' YS .63, there was no sign of flutter at all.

The more you fly it, the better it gets. I'm starting to get decent hovers, but it takes work, not as good as some of my larger electric 3-D ships. They just seem to be lighter. It's tough, the gear and fuse will take a beating.
