Yea, It seems to be a good plane. I'm impressed. Just flew it around kind of conservatively to make sure it and the engine checked out. Bummed me out to not get a second flight in last night. Didn't even get a chance to switch to high rates.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I've had mine for 4 1/2 months now, and the way i've been flying it has about a couple months left, I use this plane to perfect my 3D, cause the twist is not an easy plane to TR compared to a funtana or a 33% plane. It has helped me alot...hold on....(tears of joy)...whew.

When you guys put the control surfaces on with CA hinges. Did you do it exactly like the book said? Because on early planes it says drill a small hole so the CA and whick down into hinges.

No, i said f**k it and made a slot and slid it in with thin CA, maybe thats why i keep ripping my control surfacs off? In my case im glad i did it like that, it breaks away instead of ripping it apart!

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
When I install ca hinges, I drill a tiny hole then use a toothpick as a dowel. Works great but like breakstuff said they wont pull-out, they shatter the wing.
I cant stand it I have a twist on the way. I have a OS 70 S II that need a ride. Thought about the Magic but dont like the gear and no tailwheel. Whats the biggest fuel tank you can put in the twist? I've read they build tailheavy, plus I hate deadsticks because your out of fuel.

I need a new motor mount for mine, and more CA, then she ready to go again, but when it gets to the point to where i need a new plane, im getting a funtana 90! The twist is just too small for some extreme 3D, but it's still an awesome plane! I wonder how much better it would fly with a longer fuse?

Only thing wrong with my Twist is that I don't get a chance to fly it. It's so windy here when it is nice. Well maybe this week end. I also have a profile electric yak 55 that I've only flew once this spring for about two minutes. And I'm workin on my Big Boy and hoping to have it ready in a few days!! HOPE, HOPE

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
what im talkin about is, that i can adjust each servo independatly, typo, but forgot how to spell it, anyways, when i adjust my throws, the ailerons move either up or down, so i ahve to move my cleivs, and is a pain!!

Oh, I know what you're talking about now. For that same reason is why my ailerons are on the "low" side after I moved the control rod further out on the servo arm.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Well I started to assemble the CA hinges and I answered my own question because I saw the slow in the hinge that acts like the hole. It's a pretty good idea. Drilling those holes suck. This airplane is extremely easy to put together. You have 1 servo inside the fuesalage and plenty of room to install the tank etc. I love the exterior servos.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Sorry for the test post. I am new to this forum. I purchased my first Twist about 6 weeks ago before I found this thread. Boy have I ever learned a lot of things the hard way. Sevo holes too small, sullivan tail wheel, rear C of G etc. So I have now read all 62 pages of this thread and am so pleased to learn of the stuff you guys have been talking about for almost a year now.
I did not purchase my Twist for it's 3D capability. I purchased it for a low wing trainer. My LHS felt that if I kept the C of G forward and the throws down it will make an excellent low wing trainer. I have about 100 flights on my high wing trainer.
I am using an OS 46AX and got an extra long engine mount, and put my 1500 MAH battery above the fuel tank, and added about 1 1/2 ox of lead to the cheeks and my C of G is about 4" and I am contemplating to put my high rates at what the book calls for low rates, and my low rates at 70% of my high rates.
Do you think I am being too careful? Will I be able to control the plane with these low rates?
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciatted. I hope to work my way up to higher throws and more rearward C of G as I gain experience and confidence. Sure wish I would have dischovrered all this excellent information sooner. Oh well I'm here now! Jim Tucker

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
WELCOME ABOARD!!!! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] Are you tired from all that reading???
I think the Twist is a great trainer! If you've had some time on a 4 channel plane, then you should do fine on a Twist. (as long as you do like you said and keep the CG at 4.5" and no more) Keep your throws VERY minimal and don't attempt high rates until you are comfortable and at good altitude. Once you get used to it, then flip it on high and roll it like it's made to do! [sm=bananahead.gif]
Keep us up to date on your progress.

Another one joined the ranks at our field today. The weekend weather is supposed to be bad so he may be flying next week. Four twists in the air at the same time.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I have built 2 Twists, for the money its a GREAT buy. Engine choice is the OS 46AX with a 12-6 sport prop. Tried an OS 61FX but was a little heavy & more power than needed. This plane will vertical to Out Of Sight and will just about any aerobatic you wish to do. The large wing gives for smooth landings but a little hairy if stiff head or side winds. Have seen a Twist with an OS 70 4 stroke and it did a better job on 3 D than the OS 46. For $100.00 you could never ask for more & its a nice looking plane and easy to see while flying. Out of the box into the air is only a few hours. Happy Landings,
Smokey

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
hello i got a twist and I been flyying her for about 4 months is a great plane if you want CG at 4.5" you have to move you engine all the way at front of the motor mount and don't add no weight that is no usefull. Lead weigth will have a poor performance on the plane , you can tight you prop with one of those heavy nuts and then put you spinner on top also you make sure you give some rigt trust on the engine you will need it .

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I purchased 2 new Twists at my LHS and have started to put them together. One of them had a rattle in the wing. I opened the wing up with my hobby knife. 2 ribs were broken in several places. I have repaired them. Then as I progressed I found that the blind nuts for the motor mounts are metric, and the supplied screws are SAE, as far as I can tell. I am going back to the LHS tomorrow to see what fix we can do. I recall seeing items like this earlier on this tread, but I assumed that those problems would have been fixed by now. ?? Jim Tucker
