Default H9 SU-31 Update

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just received my Brietling graphics for my H9 SU-31 from Die-Hard graphics and again they are great. These guys never fail to impress me. I will post some pics of the graphics and maybe even get some on the plane then post the pics of the plane. This is a very complete graphics set and the price is very resonable for what you get. The set is posted on www.die-hardgraphics.com.

Here are some pics just for Wayne. Sorry Wayne I could not resist. You should stop by on your way home from picking up your new bird. Heck you gotta drive right past my house anyway.

Default motor

Mounted your motor yet? Please post a pix or two showing how you mounted it and how the cowl fits or cuts necessary to make it fit. My kit should be here today. Youre the pathfinder for a bunch of us. Thanks - and by the way - it looks GREAT!

Default Engine and shop

The engine in the plane is a ZDZ 80 twin. The servos are Jr 8411's in the tail and Jr 8231's in the wings. I am hoping to have a hardware package on Monday so I can finish this thing up and get it in the air. As for the shop it is great only problem is its in the basement and that makes it hard to get some of the planes into and out of. It is not a real problem if the tail comes off but I have a 1/3 Cub and the tail does not come off of it. Now that one is a little tricky.

Default Removing the Stock Graphics

Snobird never mind my father (spuck5644). As for removing the graphics I was very careful and placed a #11 blade between the graphic and the covering to peel up one edge. Once you have one of the edges up you can just start peeling away. The time consuming ones are the AEROBATICS because there are alot of peices. It took me a few hours to get the old graphics off and the new ones on but I think it was well worth the effort.

Engine mounting- Someone asked me how I mounted my motor. There is a great guy on this list named Renea Teo. He makes beautiful al. standoffs. I have used these on my H9 Extra with a Brison 5.8 and he makes a special one for the ZDZ's. You can see them on rcshowcase's web site under motor mounts. The cost is worth every penny even if he charged more. This guy is great and I recommend him to everyone.

Default H9 SU-31 Update

After I settled down , I realized that the kit really looks great in the colors and the quality of the kit is great. I guess I should not react to my first impressions. but, I still think H-9 should have just put the marking in the box and let the builder decide to use them or not.

Default Removing Graphics

I used a heat gun to lossen them up as I peeled. Took all of 5 minutes.

Default UPdate

I finally got my hands on a hardware package and the plane is finally coming together. I put it on the scales less the rx battery packs and wheel pants and the weight is 22lbs. The plane is tail heavy and will require about 8 oz of lead to balance. I have tried to move everything forward as far as possible but it just is not working. The only other option would be run a Pull Pull on the rudder. I see that Creek Hobbies has a great deal on there pull pull set ups. I think the final weight will be about 23.5 lbs which should be great with the ZDZ 80 twin. I hope everyone else is having as much fun as myself with there SU-31. Now when can I get my H9 1/3 Edge in a decent scheme.

Default H9 SU-31 Update

I really recommend using a hair dryer than a heat gun to avoid burn a hole in the covering. Using a hair dryer is by far the easiest method of removing lettering. After the letters are removed take some denatured alcohol and clean the area throughly removing any remaining adhesive. Now take a spray bottle and mix a couple drops of dish washing liquid with a full bottle of water. Shake to mix throughly. Spray this on the adheasive side of the new lettering to make the large letters easier to position. Once the letters are properly positioned take a plastic squegee and starting at the middle of the graphic push out all the water under the graphic. This will in turn remove the trapped air with the water making for a perfect job. If the graphic is tape with transfer tape wait overnight for it to dry before removing. This is the way the professional sign businesses do it.

Default More Updates

Well I got the throttle servo and choke servo hooked up and am trying to get the finishing touches on the plane so it can be ready to fly next weekend. I want to thank Bart at Die-Hard graphics for the Breitling graphics and would also like to thank Renea at TS Engineering for helping me find some missing parts. For motor mounts please see http://www.home.earthlink.net/~rmteo/_wsn/page3.html
you will not be disapointed at all!!!!!

Here are some more pics of the bird.

Default Cowl Cut Outs

If you look on the sides of the cowl you can see the cut outs required for the ZDZ 80 Twin. This is with short plugs. I do not think it looks bad at all so it will not get cowl blisters as I was previously thinking.
