Okay guys.. I'll discuss my motor choices in greater detail in a little while (after I watch a movie with the wife) but I've sold the FPE 1.3 and have it narrowed down to the following four motors (I think): Roto 25, Roto 35vi, RCS F-180, or MVVS 1.6 Any advice?
I really like the thought of a 30+CC for the fact of moving it up to a larger plane if and when I wanted to. (Thanks for the advice Dennis - I'll see you soon for some digital servos as well).

Dennis with Dad's Toys in Bowling Green, KY has mail order prices on dig servos but he's local so it's no shipping or waiting. Of course, I have to pay sales tax... but still no waiting. Going Digitals on all control surfaces and standard on Throttle (probably HS-81 or something small).

I think it would be fun www.Skysharkrc.com has a Chirsten Eagle that's slightly larger (about 2" on the wingpan) and comes in on the scale around 13-14 lbs so it's about .25 - 1.25 lbs heavier than the advertised weight of the M12.

The roto 35 is going to set me back a little. $445+85 muffler+35 mount = $565.00 Think it's worth it. I'll be able to move it to bigger planes as well. I'll have to check prop clearance to make sure it can swing an 18" w/o issue. Even may go wtih a 20 if I can get it on there (that's just silly).

Just put a couple strips of 1/8 aircraft ply about 1" wide front and back of fire wall, it will hold the Roto. Heard reports that this is a smooth engine for a gasser so it will most likely be fine. I my self will be aiming very high on this project when it enters the shop tomorrow. Hope it works out the way I want.

Ok gents...Sold the FPE 1.3 and have purchased....
Roto 35vi
Wrap around inverted Pitts muffler
roto aluminum hard mount
18x10 bambula break-in prop
ignition switch
1 bottle of break-in oil
1 bottle of running oil
single stud mount for the prop vs. the six bolts and tru-turn prop adapter
and a 2.5 gallon fueler system.
All of this shipped for right at $625.
Very friendly service at RCS. I think I'm going to be really happy with this motor in the plane. Was on AIM last night with Tram and found a Tiger Moth (can you say acrobatic) that weighed the same as the Pitts but had recommended gas motor sizes. They recommended 20-40 cc. While I know the FPE 1.3 would have flown the bipe, I know the roto 35 will make the bipe a show stopper. And after all, isn't that what we are all looking for? From all reports that I've been able to read, the roto's are dead still running motors compared to 4-strokes. I'll absolutely have to reinforce the firewall to make certain that the motor doesn't pull loose. I'll do the plywood mentioned above, peg the firewall, as well as some triangle stock if needed. The servos will absolutely be moved to the rear of the plane along with the rx battery. I'll keep the ignition and it's battery in the front of the plane to provide as much separation as possible.
I believe I'll be okay swinging an 18" prop (might have to get larger tires and land deadstick) might even be able to do a 20" What would you guys recommend on that?
Any other helpful suggestion or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yup sounds like fun. Peg the firewall, add the ply and use triangle stock where the engine box exits the main fuse former on three sides. Mounted my Brison 2.4 in the Lanier pitts this way, took the impact pretty good and had no vibration issues.
Can you guess what engine is going into my 12???????Even has the purdy looking purple case...
Do not run the engine without the wings, it will shake the tail feathers like crazy.

Purple case? Not the Brison (at least not from their website), 3w and MVVS is red, Roto is blue and red, can't think of a purple motor but I'm not into the gas scene that much. If you were going electric I would say Hacker!
I saw one manual for the skysharkrc Christen Eagle that used aluminum L channel and bolted that to the firebox and fuse.
The carb will sit back in the firewall box in a hole. Is there anything I need to consider or do special for a rear mounted carb? Do I need to seal off the interior of the plane some how since the carb will be open to the interior?

Millenium edition...Brison...Anyhow some people will stick a piece of 1/16th balsa to block off the box behind the carb and put a small hole in the bottom of the box. This keeps any gas that spits out from going back into the airframe. Other than that just make sure you can get to the settings without to much hassel at first.
Aluminum angle seams like alot of excess...When I pick mine up tomorrow I will look at the box and how it mounts then decide. People use to use the angle when the box actually just mounted to the front former and didn't carry through further to the other formers.

The firebox is actually integrated into the fuse design. Nice box truss type of construction that laser cutting allows. If my measure measurements are correct, I should be able to swing a 20" prop without problem. I'm going to upgrade the tires to a nicer set that's 4" - 4 1/2" dia instead of the 3 1/2" so that would give me up to 1/2" more on clearance.

Here is a picture of the bipe more or less level. With the 18x8 prop on the 1.60 I have 3 inches of clearance. You would really have to botch the landing to dork the prop. A 20" prop might be a different story...
I am considering running a 19x6 woody but don't have one to test yet. All my flights so far have been on a 18x6 zinger pro which seemed to have plenty of speed.

Alright, where do I get a prop like that and how much? CF...cool. My break-in prop is all I have and it's a 18x8 for the roto35. Can't really read the square ruler but it looks about like 3 1/4" of clearance so if I go with an 1" bigger wheels that will make 3 3/4" clearance more and a 20" prop would take an inch out of the clearance so I would be about 2 3/4" off the ground. That's close but doable.

Well if that plane is level you should never dink the prop unless you use it as a brake...A 20" will work good, I wonder if a 19" 3 bladed can found for this. I do not care for the carbon fiber props, as they tend to be heavier and I won't need the nose weight..

Whoa!!! Just got done looking at my pitts,,,One of the best built ARFs I have seen yet. These things have come along way, even when compared to my H-9 Suki....
Will need to keep a eye on the I-Strut mounting hardware for vibration problems with the gassers, other than that it looks great.
I may try to install 4-40 blind nuts also in the I struts for the mounting screws---One less thing to drop during assembly.
Can't wait to get this one going. In the next week or so..
