Would one of you lucky guys who owns one of these please tell me where the elevator servos are located? Middle of the plane or in the rear? If it is in the middle do the instructions say to do a Y pushrod or use two servos?
Thanks
Thanks

Well,
I checked my credit card account today on the computer, and
started a little Irish jig. For it appears that Aeroworks has billed my card for the Edge 60/90 arf, it has been shipped, and my
Corsair from North West Hobby Tecnologies is coming as well!
Sorry guys, I know the Corsair isn`t a arf, but it is still good
news! Waiting, waiting, waiting.... Radios and engines are on
standby alert....

beautiful
the hardware is nice but a few things are disliked. the control horns are good and pushrods are prebent but they are hooked up to the servo by an easy connector! New ones will have to be made. Other Than that BEAUTIFUL!!!!! everything fits and covering is better than me (not saying much) ! Naa just jokking it is awsome and worth the wait if it flies like i hope it does. what is everyone putting on the front of this thing? ys, saito, or os? give me somehelp there.

wing
How did you guys go about measuring or doing the wing bolt on this guy? What drill bit size did you use? I am at this step and would like to hear from those who have done this step.
Thanks

now the balancing...
I am at the balancing stage, but this plane seems very sensitive to where the balance point is, has anyone else experienced this? And is 4 3/4" inches the correct C of G?
Thanks

Flying the 90 540
25 flights now....
Engine: ys91
fuel: ys20/20
servos: RUD,ELEV,AIL 1ea 8321 (with y pushrod on elevator), micro on throttle.
RX:JR 649
Batt: JR 1400extra
It took quite a bit of work to get that y pushrod working properly...had to install 2 supports and grease these (after removing bottom covering), but I now can get 60deg of throw with little or no play.
DAY1
With the YS91z in there and a 14x10 and no cowling (until the thrust was set perfectly) it would tailslide at full power.
I found the plane plenty loose with the cg at 4.5" back from the leading edge.
DAY2
Tried a 15x6 prop and added some right thrust, tail weight (1.5oz) and 1/2 oz to left wing. Had enough power to hover now. The airplane at full power will SLOWLY climb from the hover and stop a tailslide reasonably fast. Getting 9600 on the 15x6.
DAY3
Put the cowl on, moved the battery back and removed some of the tailweight... HOLYSH___ ....she was way tailheavy (moved the battery too far!) The plane was doing 20' pitchups. Fortunately with the throttle back the pitching calmed down and I got her down without incident.
Removed the rest of the tailweight and added it to the cowl. She was still very tailheavy but controlable so I kept flying to test. Found I had less power in the hover and it was VERY marginal. I think the engine was not cooling as well in the cowled install and so I couldn't lean out as much and so lost RPM. Tried a 15x8 with not much more luck.
DAY4 (to follow...weather permitting)
Put the battery forward again and removed all weight. Put ducting in cowl inlets to direct air directly over engine head. Enlarged the air exit hole in bottom of cowl.
Will also try some 30%nitro 23%lub powermaster heli fuel if the weather holds tommorrow.
BTW I was focusing mainly on hovering in the above testing as it was right on the edge with the 91. As far as all other flying the plane does extremly well. I would say it is the biggest little plane I have ever flown as far as handling. The knife edge is very good, both high speed and high angle require very little mixing. The spins and tumbling are unbelievable. Torque rolling is very controlable although the plane spins a bit quickly at times (it is small). The plane does a beautiful wall and a perfect waterfall (even with that silly y pushrod).
One fun idiosyncrasy was that when a waterfall is performed from the hover, if the plane is stopped at the nose up attitude precisley it will spontaneously do a very fast 1.5 rotation torque roll (it really winds up). I'd love to call the hybrid manuever a whirlpool but I'm sure its been done and named before.

Edge with ys 91
I am planning on using a ys 91 also do you think it would be extremely tail heavy with installing the elevator servos in the rear fuse??? If so i plan on using black and yellow sullivan nyrods with two servos for elevator. thanks

rear servos
i doubt it would not be tail heavy. I now have the battery pack located in the turtle deck behind the canopy to get the correct cg. The plane just seems to be on the edge of the correct power to weight for hovering so I'd be leary of adding the weight of another servo, the extensions, and the structure neccessary to mount them in the tail. Maybe two high torque mini servos would do the job?

edge c/g
hey AAAA, sounds like you had fun. when you did your cg did you use 4.5 or did you use some thing else. talked to aero-works today they said they would probably start with around 3.5. i am using ys 91 inverted and at 4.5 i come out nose heavy if you could let me know, thanks

Flying the 540 DAY 4:
DAY 4 here goes:
Removing all the weight and getting the motor running cool got me back to day 2's performance! The plane does THE MOST incredible knife-edge spin I have seen! The hovering is very consistent and managable but I must say that with the 91 on 20/20 fuel it is a SLOW climb out from the hover. I still need to try some 30% fuel but I am having a blast with the plane now.
The CG ended up at 4 3/4 for a very sensitive 3D setup. I'd do first flights at 4" or so and move the battery pack back if you want to loosen things up.
Yes Racer Rob my battery ended up aft of the cockpit(in the turtledeck), tanks on the cg, and receiver behind the elevator servo to get the proper cg.
This plane is a winner!

More details
Hello all,
I have the Aeroworks Edge on order, should arrive Monday. I plan to install a Saito 100. What weight have you been getting before fueling? What prop are you using and what RPM are you getting with the YS 91 ?
I plan to do a detailed review from start through first several flights. I will post here on RC Universe. First thing I plan to do is assemble all the aircraft parts and weigh it before installing anything else so people will know the starting point.
Keep those reports and suggestions coming.
