Default Edge 540, H9 or Lanier???

I was going to order the H9 Edge and found out Lanier got an Edge ARF too, it is about a pound lighter. Does anyone know how do they stack up with each other in the 3D department. Any snap out behavior with moderate elevator throw?

KC.

Default Edge 540, H9 or Lanier???

The hanger nine Edge 540 is actually 27% where the Lanier is 25%. The H9 edge is the one I bought. This plane is one great flying plane. It is a very natural flying plane with no roll coupling and very little if any pitching in knife edge flight. The stall is straight forward and the elevator response is tremendous. Mine came out to 13 pounds even on a calibrated package scale but I have added an extra servo for the elevator. I plan on putting the plane on a diet I figure I can get the weight to about 12 to 12.5 pounds total dry. Even at 13 pounds the plane floats in for a landing though and shows no bad tendicies.

Default 3D

Both are nice birds. We have had several H9 Edges in the local clubs and we just got the first Lanier. The lanier is smaller and very well built. It is powered with a Brison 2.4. It is very light and agile. THe H9 Edge is better powered with a 2.7 - 3.2 motor for unlimited flight. The H9 has had some wing issues that are said to be cured. We have lost a couple of them. Both nice, but the Lanier is a bit less money and has removable stabs.

I don't think you could go wrong with either. The flight characteristics are very similar.

Default Edge 540, H9 or Lanier???

3DRC,
Yes I have been flying mainly at Irwin Field lately when I get a chance. The H9 edge that I test flew a your field has worked out to be a great plane after I sorted out the inital problems.

I was going to use a Webra Bully, (2.1 on glow) for mine. I could go to a Quadra 50 or a G-62 on gas but do I need to?

Default Edge 540

The last review of the Lanier Edge 540 I read the author put an OS 160FX in it and the plane had absolutely unlimited vertical. As for the Hangar 9 Edge 540 there is a guy at my filed that has one with an OS 160FX and I can verify that it will go vertical like a bottle rocket. Unless gas is just the option that you want I would forget about adding all the extra weight of a gasser.

My 2 Cents

Michael

Default NOOOO!!!

Those would be too heavy for good flight. To put a larger gas motor on it you will need a light one. Both of those are heavy motors. THe BME 44 or 50 is very light and the ZDZ 40 is also. THe Brison isn't too bad. THe Quadra and G62 are bricks...

Another good choice is the Taurus 2.6

Default BME 44`

I've seen the H9 Edge flown with a BME 44 and it's a ballistic missle. The very low weight of the BME makes it usable in these 25-27% without too much weight penalty. The Big Zenoahs are good reliable workhorses, but just too much lead for these sub 80" aerobatic planes.

Default H9 Edge or Lanier Edge

I would choose the H9 Edge. I have one right now with a YS-140, but the Saito 180 pulls my buddies just as well. Another friend of mine has the Lanier. It actually has a skinnier fuselage and doesn't look as close to scale as the H9. Both fly well, although the pilot of the Lanier has just stepped up to that size and skill level of plane so I haven't seen its potential as of yet. My H9 is probably the best flying plane I've touched in the 15 years or so I've been flying. It even beats out the CG Extra and Ultimate.

Choose the H9 Edge.

3D2000,

I would go with the Hanger 9 Edge. The H9 Edge looks great. Much prettier than the Lanier. Its bigger with a Saito 180 it will come out to weigh under 13lbs.

Shortman, look over your parts carefully. Use an incidence meter on the wing panels and check the all the way down. Find Skerlock's thread on trimming this plane. He's still working on it. He had two sets of wings and both sets were warped. He is scratch buuilding a fin and rudder because they were twisted too.
I know there are a lot of good flying H9 Edges but to get it trimmed right you must be careful with this one.

Hey Shortman,

Did you fly yours yet?

I just flew mine today and it's simply great.
Mine has Saito 1.80 and mini hitec servos in tail for the Elvs.
It 's weight came in at 11.5Lbs I definitly would stay away from a heavy gas.

Go OS1.60fx for 2stroke or Saito 1.80 4-strk Keep light and plane is a pleasure to fly.
But make sure you check incedence from fuse to tip of wings, as some people had twists in their's (H9's that is)
