World Models Ultimate 40S, Tell me about it please.
I would like to add a World Models Ultimate 40S to my inventory this winter and I want to know what they are like. I have heard lots of good things about World Models planes. I have seen a couple and they looked pretty nice. Tell me what engine your using and your type of servo. How does it fly? Any trimming issues? There add online says it only requires 4 servos?! That must be wrong, it should really use 5 I hope, one in each wing? Thanks Everyone. Jeff

RE: World Models Ultimate 40S, Tell me about it please.
I don't have a WM Ultimate 40S nor have I ever seen one. I do have the DPM(Dave Patrick Models) Ultimate 40. I'd be surprised if the WM Ultimate came in at 4.5 lbs. My DPM Ultimate is built fairly light and is 5.5 lbs with 5 servos, 2 minis in the lower wing, and a Saito 72 in the nose. 4 servos is not gonna cut it, even though Cermark lists the DPM Ultimate 40 as requiring only 4 servos it's really 5.
Cermark is currently selling the DPM Ultimate 40:

Consider the DPM Ultimate 40 is a great little plane, with very good reviews here on RCU. With a 50 2 stroke, YZ 63 or Saito 72 it's got great power. There's a couple mods explained in detail here in the ARF forum that make it a bit easier to build and setup. The good news is they are minor and easy to do.

My wm 40 s flies great. NO trimming issues, perfectly trimmed on first flight. I'm using 90 torque oz servos on the elv, rud, and just 1 on the 4 ail. Very pleased with this plane. I'm also have a saito 82 on the front end. I did a little reinforcement on the plane, used included hardware except a sullivan tail wheel. This plane is very well built. I have tried to rip the wings off a few times and it's still in perfect cond. Plus you do not have to dissassemble to get it to the field. KEEPER!

I have the beautiful airplane this Aug. I highly recommend it.
I put OS 46FX with slimline pitts muffler. APC 12x 4.
It flew well and looked great.
One thing like to mention is the CG. I need to put the battery under the canopy
to balance OS 46 engine. If you are planing add 4 stroke engine you need to add tail weight.

RE: World Models Ultimate 40S, Tell me about it please.
I run an OS 46 AX in my WM Ultimate 40s. Like the last post stated, I placed the battery under the canopy which made the CG perfect with the 46 size engine. I have read several posts where builders are running fairly large engines like the 82 four strokes and I'm a believer in having plenty of power, however, this plane performs great with a 46 two stroke. I selected the OS 46 AX because I've been using one in my Hangar 9 twist for the past year and it has not missed a beat. Its small size fits nicely under the cowl and with a pitts style muffler and an 11 x 6 Master Airscrew prop you have a perfect combination for the weght of this plane.
Out of my performance planes such as the Hangar 9 Extra 260, Twist and Funtana 40, I consider this the most fun in terms of zipping around the sky doing snap rolls and flat spins. It lands very nice as long as you carry a little speed and also lands well in a dead stick as far as bi-planes go. The only negative is the color scheme as it really blends into sky and becomes quite difficult to tell which side is up.

RE: World Models Ultimate 40S, Tell me about it please.
I want to buy this plane and I was wondering how many and which servos to buy.
So, 3 high torque servos and 1 standart, right? For throttle I would get Futaba S3004, but for the rest would be Futaba S3305 or S3010? Will they fit?
Also, which battery? 4 or 5 cell? NiCad or NiMH?

I used standard size for everything except the motor control. That's a Hitec 81 which is a micro but perfectly sufficient. The others are Hitec 225s, with the one on the rudder having metal gears. Eventhough the aileron servo drives all 4 of them, the ailerons are very short and don't deflect much at all. I've just recently increased their deflection over the WM suggested 10mm and the sucker will roll faster than I can see. I think the 225s are about 50oz/in but don't remember exactly.
It's an excellent flyer. There is a thread around here somewhere about the aileron hookup. The suggested rigging looked wrong to me so I did an easier setup and mine seems to have zero tendency to snap.
It's a truly beautiful plane in the air. Beautiful....

How does this bird land? I like it in every way but I am worried that she'd be tricky to land in that when she stalls she drops a wing. Does she do that? How is this airplane's durability?

I have one with a TH .75 engine. STUPID POWER[sm=lol.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
I cut some covering off the wings and installed a Hitec HS-81 on all 4 ailerons. I installed 2 Hitec HS-225 for the elevators.
Hitec 475 on the rudder and Hitec 425 on the throttle. Battery is 6V MH 1200mah. RX is Hitec 8ch Supreme.
Balances perfect with RX and battery right on the CG.
Flies great. Lands like a bipe. Weighs 5.25 pounds

I've hovered the little sucker in to a landing on a day that was windy. It's definitely not a 3D airplane, and certainly has little ailerons, but they seem to be very good all the way to a stall. But I've got to force it into a stall with the elevator. That suggests that it's not a touchy flyer. I've yet to see it do anything that I'd call touchy. It's a kewl airplane. I got a 2nd one in the box waiting for me to finish the P-40 I'm assembling now. I got no clue how durable it is if you're asking how it stands crashing. But the wing setup is the only thing that gave me pause when I was sticking the thing together, and it seems to be holding up great.

Hello, i have just bought this plane and i am going to use a Saito 72. In the instruction manual the engine is mounted inverted, is it possible to mount a 4-stroke 90 degrees, or will the head come too far out of the cowling??

The motor mount that comes in the kit may be mounted sideways although it's not shown in the instructions. I was going to do this with my OS 46 but the head would stick out so I mounted it inverted instead. I used a Uniflow tank setup and it runs perfectly in any attitude - idles under 3K all day long without loading up. Don't be afraid of inverted motors - Go UniFlow!!!! Here's a link to some Uniflow info: http://www.fraserker.com/heli/uniflo...flow_works.htm

I mounted my OS46AX sideways in my Ultimate. It actually doesn't stick "out". It does need a big hole in the cowling, but projects so little that it really isn't "out". And the cowl easily goes on and off over the motor. That said.......
If you have an OS46AX to compare your 4stroke to, you ought to be able to see how much more the 4stroke would project.
BTW, you can sometimes mount at a 45degree down angle. With this cowling however, you'd also need to look closely before trying that. It isn't obviously suitable.

RE: World Models Ultimate 40S, Tell me about it please.
The OS46 AX is 67,4mm from the senter to the head, and my Saito is 25,6mm longer. That will probably look a bit funny??

What Pitts Muffler did you use?
I see many listed on the TH site.
Also I'd like to use the lighter .46 engine and a Pitts muffler as this more closely matches my other planes.
Any suggestions on a matching muffler for this?
Thanks!

RE: World Models Ultimate 40S, Tell me about it please.
I used a TT 46 Pro in mine and it came out to 4.5lbs. On the money. Also went with the single aileron servo and am satisfied with the way it flies, honestly. Not a 3D machine, but it IS a lot of fun to do all standard aerobatic moves.

I see that the Slimline Pitts muffler is not in stock.
Would the standard Bison muffler work for an inverted install of a .46 BB engine?
Thanks.

WHat do you folks think of a Siato 100 on this plane? Servos in the tail. I have the plane and engine and don't want to buy another engine.
Thanks
