I was thinking of an O.S. 1.60 FX and was wondering what people thought of this engine? Performance, starting and general opinions?

ARTF - what make is it? What is the AUW? If its about 11 lbs then the OS160 will be nuts, actually great fun. The OS160 will happily haul a 14 lbs plane for sport flying and good aerobatic is about 12 lbs.

Its world models cap. I am also considering the Saito 1.80
I have looked at the Moki engines but I have heard that they aren’t the best.

That's not my personal experience. For big bore 2-stroke glows, they are the best IMO. But that's just my opinion. I've had nothing but good experience with them. For power to weight INCLUDING the weight of fuel you have to carry, they are hard to beat. Also they burn 0% nitro, way cheaper than 30% heli. Anyway, those are my words on Moki. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

That is only an 11 lbs plane ... the SA180 on it will be total mayhem! Hehehe ... an OS160 is more than enough on ths baby. People are flying the WM Extra 300 160 with the OS160 and it is sufficient for sportman flying. That is a 14 lbs plane.

A 73 inch CAP under 11 pounds? Sheesh that's light. The Moki 1.80 would be a satellite launcher in that ARF. How does it fly? Can it 3D at all? The Moki would add almost a pound to it so it would be more like 11.5 pounds. The Saito will require a 24 ounce tank and the Moki will need only a 16 oz tank. So even though the Moki is heavier the fuel it carries is lighter by 1/2 pound. So the net increase in flying weight is only 1/2 pound.

Thanks for the replies guys. I don’t know what to do. I think I might get the o.s. 1.60… I don’t know. I think I might write all the options down and pick one out of a hat and settle it that way.

These are all great engines no doubt, but the 1.60 OS would be a good choice for a 73 CAP.
The saito 180 is an awsome engine and is easy to maintain and find parts for locally (here anyway) and would have power to spare.

I'm flying an older Hangar 9 Matt Chapman CAP 232 with a Saito 150, and it seems to be powered very well. It comes in at around 14 lbs or so, and the 150 will take it vertical for quite a while before running out of steam, and will probablly hover it with a flatter prop. (I'm running a 16x8, I like 'em fast).
You might want to also consider a Super Tigre 2300, at $150 they're hard to beat and it swings an 18" prop.

ARTF - there are pros and cons with each engine. Moki is a little heavy for its size but will run happily on ZERO nitro (save some money eh!). OS is nice and sweet but as usual its a little costly (relatively speaking), Saitos are a piece of arts, powerful and light but they cost a bit and enjoy high nitro fuels. Guess they are all good engines
