RE: New H9 Cub??
mobyal: when you had the cowel off did you notice if the engine compartment was fuel proofed? The reason I ask is because it was not on my H9 p51pts. Sorry to hear about the missing parts that is allways a pain in the but.
rick: you think they will have the problems with this one like we had with our p51's? I have allways liked the cub and might have to go on and get one of these.
You guys be sure and let us know how it flys and if you find any problems with it.

Yep the firewall is fuel-proofed! All parts are here (finally) so I'll finish it up tomorrow.
Really looks good, and I recommend it.

RE: New H9 Cub??
To the two guys flying Hawaii. So do both of you fly Kailua? I am hoping to have my H9 Corsair out there soon. It is almost done but I still have some things I need to do. I am hoping for Maiden on the 11 of this month.

RE: New H9 Cub??
I flew one of the new Cubs today. I was very impressed with the scale details and although I never liked a 2 stroke on a Cub the Evo 2 banger seemed well matched to it. Nice aircraft and flies good...like a Cub should.

Lanny Bob we need to swap wives it sure would make it easier to explain this new H9 Cub I am buying. Orderd mine today from LHS I checked all over Houston and no one had one in stock. LHS said would be in by wensday so should make it out to the field by next weekend. I hope it go's toghether as quck and slick as the h9 p51 pts with out the hassels I had with the p51.

Hope to see you there too Cougar....Just ordered my H9 Warhawk from Aloha Hobbies hopefully will get it next week so I can build it. But I think I will maiden it at the Marine Base on a concrete runaway. I'm worried about how the retracts will hold at Kailua.
Scott told me somebody ordered a Saito 100 for a Corsair...my guess its you?

RE: New H9 Cub??
ya I got my Saito 100 and then another one came in while I was at Aloha Hobbies. I am not sure who it is for but I tried to get it for free I am also concerned about the grass at Kailua, I was thinking about flying the Maiden on base since I work here anyways. I have a feeling that the three of us (me, speed302, and chiefg) have met before but even if you told me your names I suck at remembering names. I need faces or planes or helis

Thinking about a Saito 60 or 90 twin. Would need almost five inches from front of
firewall to front of cowl. Can anyone measure that dimension for me ? Is the firewall recessed ?

RE: New H9 Cub??
I just got a j3 pnp. I am new to rc planes, I have been flying a nexstar for about 2 1/2 years. You may not beleive it but I have not crashed it yet, (YET.) I'm sure it will come sooner or latter. I have had no problems with the takeoffs or landings and the nexstar goes were i want it to and does what I want it to do. Anyway I was wondering if the j3 flys anything like the trainers because I was woundering if I will have much of a problem flying it.

A Cub flys nothing like a trike gear trainer. You might SERIOUSLY want to look at another tail dragger to be your next plane before trying to fly the Cub. Cubs are notorious for the relative skill required to handle them, particularly on the ground.

Wingride47,
Sorry for the time between replys. I hope it does'nt have the same amount of
problems. I actually have two PTS's, one of thems my sons and while his had
it's share, It was'nt the nightmare the second one was! Now that there all fixed
It's a pretty good little plane! Never flew it with any of the training aids on it.
and installed a OS 50SX on last weekend, Have'nt been able to fly it yet though
do to Weather []

RE: New H9 Cub??
Rick I pulled mine out of the box yesterday and it had a crack in the cowel other than that it looked great. Went together ok but had a couple of issues but, nothing like the P51PTS. The covering on this one was much better no wrinkles. The construction seems to be tighter and the quality control on this one seems better. It may have one or two bad servos and it may not I will test it tomorow and see aileron hummed real loud and elevator did not respond at all. Went toghether quickly lots of small bolts and lock nuts on the wings. and like tonight it was late and I was tired so will check it tomorow. It sure is big and it sure is pretty. Joe at Horizon said he would send me another cowel and if the servos are bad I will send them back and they will replace them. looks like this one going to be high on the fun factor scale. Patrick

RE: New H9 Cub??
Hey guys --
I'm just finishing up my Cub. Actually, it's all assembled. But I seem to have misplaced my Instruction Manual. Would someone do me the favor of posting the recommended control throws?
Thanks

RE: New H9 Cub??
Happy to help.
I ordered one of these from my LHS and when it arrived, the rudder was absolutely crushed from a tail end impact from something. The bottom of the box showed the "dent" but the box lid was perfect. The damage happened before it got shipped. I snatched the assembly manual out and kept it. My replacement should be in this afternoon.
From what I saw of this plane, it's going to be a winner. It's way nicer than the last generation 1/5th scale Cub that Hangar 9 had and that was a fantastic plane!
I can't wait....

RE: New H9 Cub??
The gear is a rigid scale looking wire gear. Pretty nice but, no suspension. I have a Robart 5th scale Cub gear set that I got for my past H-9 Cub that I think will slide right on. http://www.robart.com/RoboStruts/Cub_gear.aspx
On a sad note, my 2nd PNP Cub has the same crushed rudder. Hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm. I'm not sure if I will go for a 4th as think I can wait for the ARF version release next month.
Dave... no,,, the other Dave

RE: New H9 Cub??
Uh-Oh --
Sorry to hear about THAT!
If you've read all this thread, you'll see that mine came missing landing gear straps and screws, more than half the 4-40 bolts and lock nuts, and the strut ends. But H-9 sent the missing items quickly and the thing went together real fast -- maybe two hours? -- once I got all the pieces in one place.
Third time HAS to be the charm for you!

RE: New H9 Cub??
I'd really like the 3rd one to be a winner. My LHS owner (who has never steered me wrong) told me that Horizon has had a rash of crushed rudders that apparently happen when the box is dropped somewhat hard on the rudder end. The engine has a plastic cap on the crank so if "thumped" on that end I don't think it would hurt anything but, the loaded fuselage is a somewhat heavy unit and I can see damage happening if the uncaring UPS guy just tosses it out the side of his truck as I've seen them do before. Not to mention the in transit handling. There was a styrofoam block glued in the box intended to keep it from dinging the tail that perfectly matches the crunch. It's makes sense to me.
As far as missing pieces go, well, if number 3 is intact but missing something, there are 2 more sitting there waiting on return call tags... Can you say "Cub Salvage Yard"???[8D] I'll be sure to inventory #3 before I leave. Thanks.
