Great Planes ARF Skybolt
Has anybody been able to buy one of these from any dealers and take ownership? It looks like they keep moving the delivery dates back.
It must still be on boat from China.

RE: Great Planes ARF Skybolt
Let's get serious here. Anyone of you guys considering putting a Saito 1.25 in this plane. Would like some pro's and con's on this. I know it will work with a Saito 100, but what if........ MM

One of the guys in my club has one built from a kit, with a Saito 91 on it, and it flew great. I have a new Saito 100 that's looking for a home and I was thinking of getting this as my first biplane. With the $25 off, plus a $30 coupon towards a future purchase how can I go wrong?

Might sound crazy but I'm thinking about a OS120 AX 2 stroke. Its light . small & has plenty of power for this plane. The final weight will be the determining factor.

Just to give you guys a ballpark...
I had the original kit which was about a pound heavier, plus I added the weight of a smoke system.
I flew it with a YS 91AC and it was a very good power match.

RE: Great Planes ARF Skybolt
You guys don't need to over power this plane, it's not designed for 3D. I installed a Saito 120 in my kit built Skybolt because of the need for nose weight. Even when flying big monster loops I never go above 3/4 throttle. It is one fast plane, even with a 3 blade prop. Ground clearance isn't all that much and with a larger engine you may not have the ground clearance. The original 15-6 prop I had on mine had green tips. Stick with the recommended engine or a Saito 100 and you won't be disappointed.

My LHS got 2 in yesterday, one didn't last 5 minutes....a guy came in while they were being delivered, took one look, opened the box to inspect contents and said I'll take it.
My friend begged me to put some money down on the other one so he could get it after work. Being the nice guy I am I bought it for myself
I guess he'll have to wait until the next round...
Naw...just kidding....I took it to him, boy was his wife p****d.

Brian,
There is a link on the Tower Hobbies Site that lists the Skybolt. If you go to the link from the home page where it lists the Skybolt, then you have to click on the Tech Notes tab at the bottom.
Not sure if this will work on here, but here is the direct link to the coupon:
http://www.towerhobbies.com/promos/0...nza-rebate.pdf
You should be able to copy and paste it into your browser.
Mine is on the way; scheduled for delivery on Monday , though I'll be waiting a while to build it, I have a couple more to build and practice on before flying my first bipe.

Hey skydemon,
I am very interested in the new Skybolt. If I get me one I 'd like to power it with a small gasser, though. When you get yours could you post the inside dimensions of the cowl for me? That would be great. Where do you fly, normally in Chesapeake? At Fentress?

RE: Great Planes ARF Skybolt
thevirginian,
I'll pull it out of the box to check it out, and take some measurements for you. What gasser are you thinking about using? It's not a very big plane.
I fly with Hampton Roads Radio Control out in Suffolk http://www.hamptonroadsrc.com. I might make it to Wildhorse the end of Jul for their military flyin...they have some pretty relaxed rules and I have been told that my Big Stiks will qualify because of their markings.

Hey, SkyDemon
You are certainly welcome to our "Warbirds over Wildhorse" fly-in on July, 29th. With the proper markings you can fly anything. I really appreciate it if you could post the inside dims of the cowl for me. I don't know yet what gasser would fit but I thought maybe that new Brillelli 26SS or the BME 90. If you are planning of coming let me know.

TheVirginian,
I'll try to get those measurements out tomorrow or Tuesday.
I'm really not sure about putting a gasser in there...even the Brillelli tips the scale at over 1 lb more than the Saito 100, and that's the lightest gasser I know of.
I'm going to try to get my utility tailer converted over so I can put a couple planes in there so I can bring both of my Big Stiks. I came too close to losing my 40 yesterday when I made the mistake of looking at my transmitter (still learning where all the switches are), and got a bit misoriented on which way it was heading (it was at the far end of our flying area). But weather permititing I'll be there with at least one of my Stiks.
