RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
I installed the fuelfill valve on the side of the fuselage, so I wouldn't have to drill into the cowling and create future cowling cracks. Now I have a bigger prob. I tried setting the CG with all equipment installed, battery far forward as possible. According to the PC-9 manual, the CG has to be set 10 cm or 3 in. from the leading edge, inverted of course. When I try to check CG at present setup, nose of aircraft points straight up and tail section straight down. How in the name of Allah am I going to be able to add roughly a pound of weight to this planes tiny nose?

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Thats how they do it in Vietnam lol!!. Actually, the manual says 10 cm, never mentions the 3 in. I used an online measurement calculator and gave me 3.165 and I went from there. Afte your post, I tried a different program and gave me 3.9. I'm back in biz. I'm also building a Hangar 9 Cessna 182 95" span with O.S. 1.60 twin, and a Megatech J-3 cub 48" .20 2 stroke

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
All,
Today I flew my 4 th and final flight with the Seagull PC-9. I had a OS46AX with a 10x8 prop and it flew great. The issue I had was in a 35 degree long high speed dive the elevator fluttered as I did a slow pull out at about 60 Ft AGL at 90MPH. I hit the ground turning the plane into confetti. When the flutter happened, the nose dropped another 5 degrees and I had less than a second before it hit. The crash cracked the case of my new OS 46AX… total loss!
One thing I did not do was seal the hinge gaps. Also make sure there is no slack in the control rods and replace the clevis with metal ones and maybe even the push rods.
Now up to the point of the crash, this plane flew great and fast. Was easy to take off and lands, although a little fast. I really liked the air plane and am considering getting another one. Good luck on your continued flight, but be aware of the flutter.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Hi mate,
I had a seagull pc-9 it was awsome. Just make sure you use some heavy duty servos on the rudder and elevator as this is what let me down in the end. I flew its wings off, it is a very good plane to learn basic areobatics with. I ran a os 50 motor in it which was pretty good. But if I was to do it again I would chuck a os ax55 p box in it. Have fun.
Regards
ANDREW.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Thanks for the advice Tmulder and Chicken little,
I finished my PC-9, at least I thought I was done. Baldeagle dude on page 30 has a great mod for the flutter prob and said it works fine. I still have the plastic pushrod ends on and the S148 servos. After reading you guys experiences, I will add stronger servos and the metal pushrod ends, and will also do the Baldeagle dude flutter mod. Hope to have her flying in the next couple of weeks. If I don't crash and after my 1st flight, I'll be driving home with a smile and will be thinking of the online guys that made it possible. I'm not much for aerobatics, speed is my satisfaction!!
Thanks all, Cheers!!

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Hi again,
I would definately change those rods over. And you say you like speed well I have been flying now for only 22 months in a realy good club in queensland and I can tell you from my experience that if you learn to slow down and practice your manourvers you will end up having alot more fun and going home with your plane intact. Anyway just some food for thought.
Regards ANDREW.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Sorry Pearl,
No disrespect intended. Just that I have seen hotdoggers before that try to run before they lern how to walk and in 99% of their cases their plane never flys again if you know what I meen.
Anyway have fun I am sure you will.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
No apology needed Chicken. You were trying to help me and I appreciate it vm.
I bought 2 futaba high torque 3010 servo's for the rudder and elevator. Do u guys think these servo's will be strong enough for the listed application, for a long period of time, such as years?
I also bought a onboard glow plug starter kit and 2 rolls of chrome covering. I'll post pic's when it's all finished up.
BaldEagle, that looks like a cool mod, but think I'll just keep the stock gear on. How fast can the PC-9 go with that retract mod?
Thanks all!!
Regards, Pearl

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
All,
The way I fixed the push rod flutter was to install some nylon push rod exits. Then I used a wheel collar around the Z-bend and placed it on the push rod exit. The exit acts as a bearing and I snugged up the play but left enough room so that it did not bind the servo. This worked great as the push rod had no movement.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Hi, nevermind the pic's. I fixed it, here's what I had to do. Nothing, absolutely nothing, the pushrods from the factory, are solid as a rock. I tried to make the pushrods bend manually and I can't even bend them at all. It's been raining here everday, for the last 3 months. I hope to make the maiden this winter, or sometime next year.

Hi all
"If you don't crash occasionally you are not trying hard enough"
See pic below taking all the slop out of the linkage will stop most of the fluttering that some have experienced, personnally I have not experienced any flutter even with my retracts version at over 100mph on a time'd circuit.
Also if you go to my retract installation thread you will see the wing structure is very good, I had difficulty with the standard undercarridge installation trying to remove it neatly.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Thanks for the pic Eagle, I remember seeing it a few months ago, but I don't think I need to do that. I have a 3010 servo on the elevator and the pushrod seems to be super sturdy, I can't see how it can flutter. I move the elevator with my hand and the pushrod doesn't bend much at all but it does turn the servo. I think it'll be just fine.
I looked at earlier post and it's easy to see that the pushrods among other things have changed over time with this kit without notice, perhaps thats why we seem to not be on the same page. The PC-9 I have, was built by Seagull, by far the highest quality kit I ever bought.
I just finished re-covering my PC-9 and will have pic's up tomorrow. She's a bute!!
Thanks for the post.

RE: Pilatus PC-9, VMAR or Seagull?
Hi Eagle, here are a few pic's of the re- covering and the pushrod pic. The pushrods in the pic are glued to every bulkhead, they are not the wooden pushrods like in the earlier versions.
Go to page 3, Crappie on post 137 shows the earlier pushrods I was talking about, he has a Seagull model.
Takecare,
Corey

Sorry, did not want to go through this whole thread!
What tricks have you come up with for the fuel situatiuon? do you pull the gas line to carb when filling, and storing (mine hydro locks from gas in cyl)
And also, mine flys runs good.........then just cuts out dies after like 4 min. land it dead engine, then it will start and run on the fLAT ground.
TT .46 pro
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
