I don't care about the little things listed as concerns here. I have all winter to put this thing together so I don't mind the extra effort. If it were summer, then maybe I'd care more. This thing is very good quality, I am very happy. Anyone thinking about getting one, do it. The things listed here are not that big of a deal IMO.
They are a big deal to me just for the fact I shelled out 600 large. I live in cali and can fly all year long.
I'm sure I will forget everything once I start flying it. Boy do I miss the H9 hardware kit[&o]

Hi Dave, Bruce and the others, I'm subscribed..
I'm in the market for a 50cc Yak thats small enough to fit in my F-150 Super Crew with a 5.5' bed. 85" max crossways for a plane rudder to spinner.
I know this plane's specs says 82" lenght is that correct? (If so wondering if i'll have room for the elevators)
Good info here..
Can't wait to see some video's ))
I do like the Red as the primary color myself.

I like RED !!!

That about sums it up, This aint no AW Quick build ARF but.... It's also a lot lighter.
I'll be the first to vote for a UltraRC Yak with the Aero-Works Yaks QB features ))))))))))))))
Don't know about you but i'm willing to pay more for that....

Anyone know of a way to setup a quick disconnect for a rudder for easier transport?
maybe a dumb idea, but had to ask...

Remove the pins from the hinges and use one piece of wire for all the hinges.

Wont the wire fall out during flight?

Sure do. You can easily adapt the hinges to accept one single wire to retain the rudder to the fin in place of the pins in the supplied pin hinges. I have done this with music wire purchased from our local hobby store, made by K&S. I would suggest bending the wire into a "L" shape on the bottom, extending approximately 1/4". I would then make a recess in the bottom of the rudder bevel to accept the wire "flush" to the bottom. Then a single piece of tape is all you will need to secure the wire for flying. Remove the tape, remove the wire, remove the rudder, and "presto" it should easily fit in your nice ride.

BTW - This technique has been around for years. Composite-Arf still uses it today.

That's a great idea... Is there a good easy way for the elevators as well?

The Ultra Yak has removable stabs so I would think it would be easier to remove the stabs in this case vs. trying the insert a wire through the counter-balance and into the hinge-line. Just my 2 cents.

Any pic's of how the stabs are removed?
This area don't get sloppy after taking them on/off after a season of flying?

From the downloadable PDF manual from their site:

Two screws in each stab hold the stab flush tot eh fuse while a CF stab tube and anti rotation pins maintain alignment.

J. David,
Have you begun work on the Ultra 107" Yak?
Will there be a thread regarding the build?
Was waiting on a EF 100 cc, but this might handle my addiction till then.

Ok, 2 screws, slide off the stab and unplug the servo, simple.. As long as the screw holes dont get sloppy.
I know you can place a few drops of CA in them to help prevent this. So i guess it will be ok for years to come......
Use a piano wire to hinge the rudder and it's slides off. "Wala" shorter plane for transport. thanks..

Hey LookNatU2,

The two stab. mounting screws thread into blind nuts inside the fuse. As long as they do not become cross threaded or over tightened they should out last the airframe.

Rick
that is if your lucky enough to have blindnuts installed ON YOUR PLANE mine did not!
but then again,if one of your horz. stab does not fit square with the fuse when you slide it on and have a 3/16 gap at the leading edge, the blindnuts are just a small thing and my ailerons are warp to the point i don't think i can get them stait useing a iron,i am going to call Ultra RC and let them know monday,i am sure they will take care of it,they did on the first one.
one thing is for sure there is no one at the end of the manufacture line to look at quality control!!!!!
ENJOY! i know i am trying

WOW... seems like you got a bunch of issues.... maybe you got the "leftovers" plane...

Mine has the blindnuts and the stabs fit flush... the tube is a smidge tight... but I'll take that over a loose one anyday...

Give 'em a call...

Well... hopefully you can hang in there... if I (or anyone else here) can help with any tips/fixs, etc... let us know... I've been in similar situations in the past... and I know your frustration... but I commend you on giving Ultra RC the opportunity to make it right for you and sticking with it...

I've got so many projects on the noard that I can't get to them all and this is one of them... but hopefully after the New Year I can really dig down and "git 'er dun".

I know how my EF flew... and am looking forward to getting this one lined up. Then there is of course the new EF plane(s) being announced on Christmas Day... Let's just build them all shall we?

Maudib, quick question off topic? Can you tell me how many rudder servos one would need for the 107" Ultra-RC Yak? Thanks for your help.

Two 5955's would be awesome... That's what I'm going to use... Some like using a single large Seiko servo... but that's not my bag... 3 5945's or so would work as well...

Well i got my horz. stab. on lastnight, cut and sanded a taper shim to fit the 1/8 inch gap at the leading edge, installed the two missing blind nuts to hold the stab on and put the wings on and gave it a look see,and what do you know the wings and stab are align dead nuts on perfect!now if i can just get the Taurus 52 delivered,i will be flying this before the snow flies.just got to work the twist out of ailerons now.
ENJOY!
