Default SIG 25% Cap 231 Ex Engine selection

Ok guys, ask 10 different people get 10 different answers. I'm stuck trying to decide which engine to put in this badboy. I'd like to go with gas for the cost, and cleanup but having never run a gasser I have no ideas where to start.

Gas or glow, 2 0r 4 stroke.... help me out please.

Thanks

J.A.F.O.

I had a os/160 FX 2 stroke and a saito 180 4 stroke in my SIG 231/EX. both perform very well. but if i was to fly it on gas, i would use the F.P.E. 2.4

Had an MDS in mine. It was a perfect combination.

Wouldnt a 2.4 be too heavy? If not how much of my cowl would I have to cut out?

Spoke to SIG. Thier tech support said the FPE 2.4 was a great motor but I wouldn't have much of a cowl left. Anyother ideas?

OS 160 FX It is a great motor. Just ask yourself one question. How many verticle snaps do you want to do? Its cheap horsepower. I have one on the H9 cap and it flies the plane very well. Power won't be an issue!

I'm in the Saito 1.80/ OS 1.60 camp on this one. The fuse is just too fragile for a heavier engine. If you want to put a gasser on a 1.20 size CAP go with the Kangke CAP... the fuse is stout. And, I thought the plane flew much better than the SIG, FWIW.

I have a 1.60 on mine and POWER is no problem. I flew it on a 1.08 OS and it would fly but thats about it. The 1.60 gave it perfect without adding any weight. I also installed a 24oz. Dubro tank on it's side to give me about 15 min. flight times. The ones I have seen with the FPE 2.4 seem to fly heavy...may be just me though.....1.60 gets my vote...Johnny

For gas you could use the RCS (Moki Modell) 1.4, or the MVVS 1.6. The RCS is lighter but the MVVS is more power. I believe any other choice in a gasser would be a little on the porky side. Also the plane is quite lightly built (fragile), so I don't think a gas 2.4 will do much for the longevity of the plane.

My Sig Cap has a Stupidtigre 2300 and is not vertically challenged. Since ST is unavailable, I'd choose the OS 1.60 if you like glow power.

For the money I don't think you can beat the 160 FX. I realize its a lot cheaper to run gas, but the 160 for its size is relatively easy on fuel. I run 10% nitro and have great performance. Plus it is a light engine. And weight isn't something you want to add if you don't have to.
