So I've grown a bit tired of all the Extra's, Caps, etc. at my field. I've read and heard good things about World Models ARFs and am intrigued by their Super Chipmunk 90S with retracts but have heard little about it. Any of you guys flying it? If so, what do you think? Considering powering it with a 4 stroke 91 or 100. Would be very interested in your thoughts.
Thanks,
Rod

I have a retract version but have yet to assemble it. Look here for more info. It sounds like people are pleased:

I fly one with Fixed gear and a saito 100. It's one of the nicest models I've ever flown. I'ts also a very enjoyable ARF to assemble. Balanced with no added weight.
I'ts worth every penny.

I've been happy with mine, except for the retracts. Mine is an early one and the gear was very light for the size of the plane. Flying of Grass is very tough on them. I believe this has been addressed with stiffer gear on later models.
I originally had a O.S. .91 4 stroker on mine, but didn't feel like it was enough power. Definately not enough to hover. This winter I put a Super Tigre .91 2 stroke on it, and it should be plenty.
Great plane overall, and definately one of the best looking planes you will see.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'll go with the Saito 100.
Anything to be aware of when you assembled it? Anyone make any mods? I'm especially interested if anyone did a pull-pull on the rudder or elevator. How about the WM hardware...is it any good?
Thanks again.

While I am a great fan of World Models(have two so far), Kondor has one at www.kmp.ca that has the fixed gear with wheel pants like a Ryan or Stuka for close to the same money. Won't have to mess with retracts. Also has a fiberglas fuse with a killer paint job. Only drawback would be fixing the fiberglas after an interrupted flight. Also might be a little heavier than the WM.

If the retracts are an issue, WM makes a version with fixed gear.
I fly this one because of the rough fields we have here. My Dad has been flying one with retracts off of pavement down in Florida for four years and has had no problems with the gear.(he makes nice landings).
I personally did not make any mods to the plane except for some additional fuel proofing w/ thinned epoxy, a couple of pieces of tri stock here and there, and hit all the glue joints I could reach with med. CA. The hardware is of good quality and I used it all except for the throttle pushrod. I used a Sullivan Golden Cable ( which I use on everything anyway). I wasn't thrilled about the tail wheel setup but you are almost forced to use it. It works okay.
This plane is essentially an ARF of a Goldberg Chipmunk ( all the specs match) and we all know how well Goldbergs fly.
Everyone should have one of these planes in their hangar.
It's most definitely a choice for a "Desert Island" model.

I ordered it on-line on 2/3/03 from Quantum. $249 including shipping. It arrived on 2/3/03. Super Fast in my book. I'd recommend Quantum any day.
First pass quality looks very good. I'll start working on it this weekend...in between scouts, basket ball, etc...

I guess it was just too hard to curb my enthusiasm. As you all have already surmised, it really didn't get here the same day I ordered it but it did arrive on 3/5.

From: ah, MS,
WM says their chipmunk is one of the finest ARF on the market and i can agree. Solid construction and a great finish adds to the superb flying abilities. The fixed gear with wheel pants mighty be a good scale thing, but on rough runways i think they arenīt better either.
