RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Greetings all,
I just purchased the twist 60. I had the 40 when it first came out and it was a blast. Lots of fun for the money. I plan to run my O.S. 75AX in it. Someone asked about this motor a few posts back. I've been using it in a profile of my own design and have found it to be a strong motor. I've got a .91fx sitting on the bench but really like the 75 so it gets the nod and should have more than enough power for the twist. I've searched the twist 60 on here and other forums and haven't found much written about it. Tons about the .40, but the 60 is only mentioned in passing. Anybody out there still flying the Twist 60?

Hi All!!!
I have one of these (T___T .60) coming tommorow. Has anyone tried this airplane with an Eflite Power 60? I also have a Turnigy 50-55 580 KV good for 1600 watts. I am definitely using 6 cell Batteries. Just wanted to know if anyone has NOT used the Power 90 ( 8 cells seems REALLY heavy for a 60 size plane ). Look forward to chatting!
Best,
Chris

. How about some of those old vinatage aircraft. Or an SR71 that has a prop driven engine on it you know a manufacture could do it. make a kit like that and not real complicated, just something to build that looks like the real thing that you can throw a .60 size two stroke on and go streaking across the sky. The hobby has changed over the years.
So i guess the result is we have to just try our own challenges.

Just maidened my Twist 60 with an OS FS 91 4 stroke in it . Very noisy plane , like a mad bumblebee . Anyone else notice the noise this plane makes ? It also didn't fly particularly well slow . With a little pace it flew well , but not as good as my Tribute , at any speed . It did do great inverted
spins and hovered fairly well .I have an OS 75AX that needs a home . Maybe the 2 stroke will not make the fuselage drum as much .

I just used some foam weather strip where the fuse sets on the wing and that helped the noise a fair amount. Got a Saito 1.25 on my 60 size, battery mounted behind the wing bolts, and CG at 6" and really enjoy that plane.

I tried flaperons but they really didn't like them.
With an OS 61 fx on my 40 it flys great really slow.
I love the way I can thrust vector it.

What prop and RPM you running?
Mine flies great at walking pace however, if your talking about hi-alpha stuff the Twist has a really short tail moment and cant be expected to have the stability of an Edge or the like.
Flying good inverted? Sounds like you have the ailerons lined up with the wing in the up position IE: aligned with the bottom surface. That would "spoil" an upright flight and act as slight "flap" inverted. Recheck your alignment along the center as viewed from the end of the wing.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Thanks for the input Dad Roman .
I maidened using a 14x6 MAK . I balanced a 15x6 APC to try next and will order a 14x4w APC with my next order . We don't have a LHS .
The weather up here in the Great White North has gone from +15C to around freezing with snow and rain and high winds .
Needless to say , I haven't had a chance to get out and fly the Twist 60 again .
I balance my props with a Dubro balancer , both the blade tip and base . My other planes don't make any drumming sounds .
What RPM do you get with the 14x4w ? I fly a Pulse XT 60 and my friend flies a Tiger 60 , both with OS FS91's . We find they perform best with
14x8 MAK props . I will check my RPM next time I go flying . It balances C.G. 5 1/2" from L.E. and is 6 lb. 7oz..
It flies well inverted but is hard to trim level . The trim changes with throttle use . I will also check my aileron setup to see if that is the cause .
I added 2 washers behind the top right motor mount and one behind the top left and bottom right . This was supposed to give more down and right
thrust . Maybe I should remove them and start from scratch , the way the kit was designed . I got this mod from another RCU post .
Thanks for the help .

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Yesterday I went out to work on my Twist 60 , I had set up the ailerons in a slightly down position . This affected it's handling . Thanks again
Dad Roman .
I also noticed my aileron were vibrating with extreme movement and quick return to neutral . I switched out the offending servo but it didn't
stop . I tried a 3rd new servo and the same thing . I tries adding weight to the aileron in different places , but they still vibrated . I have never had
this problem before with Spektrum 821 digital servos with 6 volts power . I finally tried a Hitec 625 servo instead , and all the vibration disappeared . This is the largest control surface I have used the 821's on . They work fine on the rudder and elevator . I think I found their limit . I wonder if I
should replace the tail servos also ?
I guess that is what makes this hobby so much fun . You are always learning new things .

I dont have any experience with Spektrum equipment so I dont knows
We have found that while you dont really need STRONG servos, you DO need solid servos.

Not sure if this helps, but I have found that when you run 6v power, and the battery is new and fully charged, it can cause vibration in the servos when quickly returned to the neutral position. When they are deflected, they do not vibrate. Let the battery discharge a bit and see if the vibration quits.

I have a Magnum 46 motor and a home build tuned pipe:
The power is amazing!
I have allso a BIG travel on elevator:
The inverted flat spins are amazing. Few meters of the ground I can change the fall to rising to the air and still keep the plane in flat spin. It is like shockflyer.
Realy a great FUN !

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation
Hello everyone, I'm about to bring back to life my 3 year old twist version 1.
It's been seating on the basement for a long time, I've been flying a new GP Escapade and want to give it a try to my dusty twist.
I had three flies only. I thought it was to hard to fly for my skills but after reading lots of forums I've realized my out of control tries were a consequence of a tail heavy twist. Just ordered some heavy spinners and some weights, I need to make it a little nose heavy I believe.
My question, I have TT pro .46 installed, what do you guys think for a good prop? I just got some APCs 11.5, 11,6, but I do have some other ones.
Please let me know your thoughts and any advice for the manual's CG would be awesome.
Thanks in advance!

A 12.25x3.75 APC would be the prop I would use. It is the best prop that I have tried on my .46AX. You might start with your CG at 4.25. If I remember right when I had mine, I was at 4.75 to 5 inches.

With the TT46 try the 11x5 ,12x4, and 12.25x3.75 props to see which works best for you on the Twist. I have the 12x4 apc on my Twist 40.
