Default Poll: Moki 180 or OS 160 for H9 1/4 Cap 232

I just can't make up my mind.

I had a "used" Moki 180 on my H9 1/4 scale Cap 232 but could never get it to run correctly, I eventually sold it out of frustration.

I want to get the OS 160 but now realize because it is about half a pound lighter than the Moki, I will have to take out the rear mounted dual elevator setup that I needed to balance the plane with the Moki 180. I kind of like having the elevator servos in the back.

So now I'm thinking I should just get another Moki 180 (Brand new this time!). After reading all of the success stories people have had with this engine it just seems I got a "bad" one.

So what should I get? The engine that gets the most votes will be the engine I will buy!!!

Phil

This is the plane the new engine will go in. It was originally a solid white Cap but I covered it in Metallic Purple/Metallic Blue Monokote in Matt Chapman Style

Here is the underside of the plane. It took me a few evenings to do and when not flying it can double as a Chess/Checkers board.

NICE LOOKING PLANE DUDE!!

Why buy a 180 when the 210 will bolt up in the same spot and no weight difference!!

Two friends of mine fly the hanger nine cap 232s with the MOKI 210s and they fly wonderful. and you must have gotten a bad engine because I have never seen a prettier running engine then the MOKIs.

IT MAKES FOR A WONDERFUL COMBINATION!!!!

Default Moki

Go with the Moki. It makes a little more horsepower than the OS and every one I've ever seen ran like a watch.

Don't get carried away with that 2.10 idea though. The 2.10 with the radial mount will bolt into the same firewall holes as the 1.80 but all resemblance ends there. The 2.10 is 5 ounces heavier and 1/4" longer than the 1.80, and the beam mount spacings are not the same.

Default Go with the O.S.

The O.S. 1.60FX is my choice of the two. It gives a perfect balance of power to this particular aerobat.

If you do go with a Moki, I agree with jrf that the 2.10 is just simply way too much overkill and weight for the 1/4 scale cap 232. :stupid:

OK it seems like the OS 160 is in the lead so far with 69% of the votes...I'm swaying back to the OS

My question for all of you that have voted OS so far: How did you deal with the elevator servos? (Two in the tail or Two in the fuse)

I finished installing a Moki 1.80 in my Cap yesterday. I have the cowl mounted and its looking good. I have had this Moki for three years and it runs like a top. I am looking forward to seeing what the plane flies like with the 1.80

Default Two in the fuse!

I am installing them in the normal location in the fuse with the arrowshaft push-pull set-up on each one. If you check this subject on all the RC boards, you will see that is the way most all folks go with a light engine like the O.S. 1.60FX up front.

Default Moki and OS 160

I am building the H9 Taylorcraft. I would like the OS 160 twin. I have used the Moki 2.10 and it is one great performer. If you should decide to go with the Moki, use only FAI fuel and a Cline regulator. It will perform like no other with this set up.

Default Thanks to everyone who voted!

Well it looks like the OS 1.60 won out over the Moki.

I placed an order for an OS 1.60 FX and a Slimline pitts muffler this morning. I can't wait to get this bird in the air.

Default Poll: Moki 180 or OS 160 for H9 1/4 Cap 232

I installed a OS160 in my H9 cap, and installed the servos in the standard location. I used a 5 cell 1400mah pack and installed that above the fuel tank, and it balanced perfectly with no lead added. The plane weighed in at 12lbs. Now all I need is some good weather so I can log in some flight time with this bird, here in Ohio it is still cooooooold. I have 2 other new planes that need to be flown which are a GP 1/4 Giles with OS160 too, and a Kangke G300 with TT91 4 stroker. Man I cant wait for some good weather. Those guys living in Texas are really pissing me off being able to fly year around, you lucky Devils

Default It's never too cold to fly

I started going back to the field a few weeks ago and the weather is starting to get better. The biggest problem is the Sun which gets in the way but I have noticed that it gets higher and higher every weekend.

I'm going to keep the servos in the tail and add lead weight if I have to. I want to eventually install a Smoke system and will remove the lead when the time comes. I feel better having the servos in the tail because it is a more direct connection.
