KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Hello!
I have bought quite a few ARF'S over the past few years and most are lacking in quality, etc . . . but I am a picky individual. I recently took delivery of Kondor Model Products Cirrus SR 22-G2. I was skeptical at first not because of KMP but my overall experience w/ ARF'S.
I opened the box containing the KMP Cirrus, and was I ever surprised at just how nice this bird is! Flawless fiberglass construction, very very minimal wrinkles, very clear smoked windows, high quality graphic sheet, by far better hardware kit, etc . . . I could go on for an hour!
Bottom line is that if your considering a ARF, please do yourself a favor and check out Kondor! Also when I had a question Mr. Kondor always responded promptly!
This will turn into a build thread ASAP! Stay Tuned!

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Hi,
I agree for the quality but I hesitate it is the best, maybe it is the best for a particular airplane and
even that is under question. Maybe I am wrong. Could you please check the following two links and
the planes there and tell your updated opinion about Kondor versus those two:
http://www.cmpairplane.com/ http://www.composite-arf.com.hk/
Of course everything comes with a price but I am questioning the Quality vs. Price
Ratio and for the same size aircraft the comparrison should be fair, isn't it ?
Regards,
Nick

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
I have owned a couple of Comp ARFS and I have got to say that the quality of KMP is right there and in most cases better. The other company I am not familiar with.
Comp ARF investment is 3 times higher than the KMP Cirrus. I am comparing the 2.6 and 3m Comp ARF Aerobatic Planes.
Please understand that the informaton I submit is based of my experience withe KMP Cirrus. So when you say Quality vs. Price Ratio, then my vote hands down is the KMP Cirrus.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Hello!
I am having a tuff time trying to figure out which 4 stroke engine to use in this plane. I have a new OS 160 Twin that fits in the cowl but the weight will kill me. This plane is extremely light in the tail. I mhave looked at RCV, SAITO, and OS! Maybe a YS-110?
Please share your thoughts!

I flew the prototype with an ASP160 flat twin, have alook at http://media.putfile.com/SR22-38 bear in mind the full size is quiet a quick plane, both model and plane slow very well with full flap.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
I prefer to build kits because I'm a stickler for detail and accuracy, especially since it doesn't take much more time for a manufacturer to get it right rather than guess at inaccurate profiles. I'm well aware that profiles need to be purposefully altered from full scale to compensate for some of these models quirky personalities, but KMP (the later production runs) beats just about anything in it's class. I own the Spitfire, and I saw the Stuka, Typhoon, P-38, and ME-109 and was impressed with them all! KMP still has a few abominations from the early days (most of these seem to be discontinued); I'm sure I'll be doing more business with KMP, they seem to be evolving into a premier ARF kit manufacturer. The CMP lineup is laughable when it comes to scale approximation. The KMP Cirrus is a very nice plane and I like it because it's also representative of something real; in the hands of a skillful builder, these high quality ARF's can be modified for greater authenticity. Good luck with your Cirrus.

Because Adrew builds his models with scale type rudders, they will always need weight p front. This plane is huge, I think the OS twin would be perfect upfront on this plane.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
I am working on my KMP Cirrus at this time with the ASP 160 twin. Has anyone flown one with this combination? Right now it looks like I am going to have to add lots of lead to the tail to get the plane to balance. I'm even considering moving the radio gear to the tail.
Thanks,
Thanks,

I have been flying mine with this set up for about 3 years, a fantastic combination, if I recall correctly I had to add about 3oz of lead to the back end, I also fitted on board glow.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Thanks for the information. In my quest to make the nose gear scale, I have added some weight pretty far out on the front of the plane. Looks like I will have to go through the front end of the plane and shave off as much weight and material as possible without sacrificing strength. Nose gear pictures below.
Do you remember what your total weight came out to with the ASP 160?
Thanks again.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Sorry, checked my notes I have no record of its final weight, what every it is it flies well. I love to take it up to a dot, engine to tick over full flap and then a vertical decent and land at no more than walking place, the flaps work a treat.

I actually haven't had to do any painting yet, but will need to as I fill in the sides of the front wheel fairing. I'm also curious for that reason. If I come up with something that works, I will post it here.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Included are a few pictures with some details. Let me know if you need any other angles. I want to add a few disclaimers to this nose gear setup.
1. It is heavy. I'm using 7/32 piano wire, and it adds weight pretty far forward. I'm already having C.G. problems with the ASP 160 and am working on a method of getting the batteries in the tail.
2. I have no intention of flying the plane off of grass with this gear setup. My field has an asphalt runway, and I forsee a lot of problems with uneven side load stress on the nose setup.
3. I am using a 150oz servo because of the possible side load forces and subsequent shimmy issues at play with the forward angle of the nose gear. The full scale cirrus nosewheel doesn't much care for side loading either.
I bent the piano wire using a torch and then made a channel in the fiberglass fairing for the piano wire. I positioned the piano wire in the fairing so the end of it was flush with the wheel area, and then used gorilla glue and several drops of water in the fairing leg. the foam filled up the leg and came out the top, and I cut it away. In the wheel well area, I reinforced it with fiberglass and used two blind nuts and a screw to hold the wheel in place. I will have to use some filler after the test flying to fill in the slots in the fairing for the old nose wheel wire.
I am using a 1.5" metal gear arm to maximize my mechanical advantage, and will only have about 10 degrees of steering, which should be OK for where I fly.
I hope this helps.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Funny about how long some things take, but I just finished mine yesterday. Took 5 years with a few life interruptions, but I'm now looking forward to a first flight in the next week or so. This model has a few additional upgrades from the kit, and it is probably going to take a bunch of lead in the tail to make it balance. Looking forward to getting it in the air though.

RE: KMP CIRRUS SR22-G2 BUILD THREAD
Thanks for all of the compliments. This is my first and probably only attempt at a scale plane. It took me so long as any time I had time to build, I would normally find myself at the field flying my other planes. Should be running the engine this week, and maiden flight next week. Just wondering if any other of those using the ASP 160 are using the crank case to pressurize the fuel system. The Youtube videos of this engine running are all hooked up to the case and not a muffler tap. I could do either if there is one that is better than the other. Bill [img][/img]
