Default .75 towerhobbies or .91 supertigre for ultra stick 60.

Hey I have a ultra stick 60 with a .61 magnum on it. I want a bit more power for this plane. I like to fly slow and low and find that the .61 is lazy on low to mid throttle. I was looking at either the towerhobbies .75 or the supertigre .91 both have a great price. i am leaning torwards the .75 for the weight savings. Any info would be appriciated.

I personally would not touch the ST90, I got one and that is the last time I will go near it ... the mid range leaves a lot to be desired. Why not look at the ASP/SC 91 2C? I am sure they are as cheap but they run really well and its happy on 5% nitro. Becareful about the advertised weight, make sure you know if its stated with or without a muffler.

Listen to tIANci - his observation about the ST90 mid range is the same as mine. (It would seem that this would matter to the style of flying that you enjoy).

If you only have the choice of those two - go for the TH75 - I don't have one myself but I've heard nothing but good reports about that particular engine.

I would pick the Tower .75 or Magnum .91XLS anyday above the ST .90. They do not have the rich midrange problems at all like the ST .90. I have flown ten gallons through a TH .75 and love it. I have run my Magnum .91 on the bench and it ran super out of the box, it looks to be as promising as the TH .75 but a little more power with big props. Like I said, the ST .90 has a rich midrange unlike the other two. The Magnum will have more muffler choices than either the TH or the ST though, since any muffler which fits the OS .91FX will fit the Magnum .91XLS. I would lean towards the Magnum though since it weighs about the same but has more cubes.

KHarr - Magnum 91 2C = ASP/SC 91 2C ... they are all nice engines from the same factory.

The Super Tigre engines have a mid-range adjustment.

SuperTiger .91 and carburator from OS.91 is what I have and no problems at any range. My OS carb from eBay was 35 USD and
it is from a otherwise exhausted and partly broken Heli OS.91. Carb has three needels and all the RPMs and transisitons between
them are nice. ST has much longer life than Magnum for example; I had a Magnum and it was great, ... for a while.

Niko,
Buy a $100 engine and then a $35.00 carb to make it run as good as a Magnum .91 or Tower .75. Why don't they put a decent carb on them in the first place. I still will not waste the money on the ST. I do not beleve you on the life span of a Magnum. I have many Magnums and also run TH .75's and have never replaced any parts that wore out. I ran 10 gallons last summer just in my TH .75 and that engine runs just like it did when I fired it for the first time. ST was a good engine years ago, but in my opinion they are not up to snuff with any of the new engines out today.[X(]

Well, there are even better options than Magnum, ST, etc. Have a look at MVVS for example; that is 90% OS-performance at 60%
of the OS price. I am pretty confident the price is very significant because the shop-keepers in most of the cases know very well
what they are doing with the prices; those who don't they dissapear from the market pretty soon. OK ?

The T.H. .75 is a good solid engine.

Like most of the GMS/T.H. engines it will require more work than say an O.S. to get it tuned up initially and broken in. After the first gallon of fuel it becomes fairly good.

My biggest grip with the Th .75 is the position of the muffler mounting bolts.

On many planes the position of the bolts makes things very difficult especially with the stock muffler.

On a stick you should have no problems though.

I have a TH.75 on my Ultra Stick 60.. Still have the break in prop on it. The engine is very strong, and will pull the US60 straight up for as long as you can keep up with it.. My only problem with the tower 75 s the muffler. My first one "departed'" the plane from the front section of the muffler aft. Second one I used JB Weld on, and after a few flights, the JB weld started cracking up and the muffler became loose again from the front section aft.. Now I have replaced the stock through bolt with a piece of threaded rod from the hardware store and have double jam nuts on each end, locktite, and high temp RTV between all parts of the muffler!! I think it has become my personal challenge! Like I said, the motor runs great, develops about 12lbs of pull in static state so it has plenty of pull, If I could just figure out how to make the muffler so that it doesn't vibrate loose I'd be 100 percent sold!!

John..

Hmm...

I usually JB Weld the muffler "can" to the front and back.

I haven't had one break loose after doing this.

Thanks guys for all the info. I think I will go with the T.H. 75. Since I fun fly this thing here at the house I have plenty of time for break-in and adjusting. Thanks again

I have never found that a Magnum or Tower Hobbies engine takes more to tune, but they might take a little longer to really come to life, but when they do watch out, the Tower .75 for example will perform with engines costing twice as much. The Magnum's that I have run, are just is easy also to tune as any OS out there.
