RE: New Great Planes Revolver
ORIGINAL: Chancho
Thanks Cavandish, Russm. She's a pig with lipstick, alright. Nothing pretty about this plane except when it was new out of the box. I'm surprised it's held together after all that I've put it thru.
I figured you'd have that Jett .90 broken in by now and ready to play with that monster! After reading your post a few days ago I went back to the Jett site (where I've drooled countless times) and that thing should really be the fastest glow fuel Revolver. It'll be interesting to see how it all works out. I like what they did with the Sundowner, too. It’s just too bad it’d be a lot of work to modify the fuse of the Revolver to be able to tuck in the pipe like.
Where does this madness end!!!?
When do you know you have Revolver fever?
After your Second Revolver (or 3rd for a few of you)?
After your 3rd Engine swap out?
After Reading every page of this thread and wondering what else to do?
“If I could mount some D Cell rocket engines in this thing I would!â€
Peace out,
Phil

Funny you mention these questions. I was just thinking to myself - after having an absolute ball with my 90 2-stroke installed - "What if a 120 2-stroke would fit?" I had a P-51 that I sold because I got tired of it nosing over on the grass runway. It had a Webra 120 in it which had some insane power. What if that could be installed in the Revolver?? I think that may actually give the electric bird a run for its money. It's going to have to swing a much higher pitched prop to do it though. That electric one is swinging a 16x16! Again, I apoligize for not getting you guys a video of that thing in the air. Our schedules have simply not worked out for video lately. Actually I'd love to have a 3rd person take the video of both mine and his in the air at the same time.

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
just waiting for a new cowl to arrive from tower! then do radio install with redundant battery set up with 2 swithches, break motor in, balance and fly.
I am a little concerned about the factory tank set up as it does not leave enough room for insulation against vibration.
I am going to test a bubbless clunk (OS) but assume I may have to bite the bullet and get a tettra bladder tank sent from over there, Jett do one, but only 12oz.
The only other problem I have is that I can't get 2"x8-32 caps in NZ to hold the exhaust on ! ( it is extended at the manifold with a homade 1/8" spacer)
more input please guys

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
Well, I didn't add a pound of metal up front with my 90 so ya, I think you're gonna have to add some weight in the back! Just kiddin man, but really, I'm not.
W/O the metal all I did was move the 6V nimh battery under the elevator/rudder tray in back and it CG'd perfect dead center. I don't like perfect dead center so I stuck a 1/4oz of lead in back and called it good. I may stick another back there too she comes in a litte quicker than it did with the Saito 82.

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
that sounds good, I hate adding lead to any plane, especially a heavy one ! a full lengh pipe comes in handy with a big engine, it puts a fair bit of weight towards the rear of the airframe. This was not so good with the 50 sx though, as I had to add 6 oz to the motor mount to compensate for the pipe.

Well regardless of a little extra weight, you're gonna love that 90! It'll balance out fine I'm sure. I flew mine again Monday and I love it. More than enough power for anything and I don't think it's too heavy to be able to land nicely still - a perfect combination.

Verticle be OK?? Geez Cav !
I've just taken the liberty of informing NASA of some "strato activity" around the Banks Peninsula, New Zealand Area in the up and coming weeks that will not be Defense Force sanctioned
Funny how a lot of Space Launch Pads are on Peninsulas
Chow for now, Paul

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
just wanted to post pics of the most simple landing gear mod! i have made carrier type landings in 20 m.p.h. winds and beat my wheel pants up! and no cracks or ripped off landing gear. - i know about brokin land gear, i broke my first revolver gear off. - this is my third revolver! L.O.L. you can see i cut the area above the gear out and coat the gear area with 30 min. epoxy! thats it. also i added carbon fiber tube over the rudder push rods and heavy duty servo arms.

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
Not too much to report really
flew straight as an arrow with one click of up trim
I am using 10% nitro, and flying at sea level with a totally standard Jett 90 L (did not need the exhaust extension) an APC 13x6 gave me 13400 static an 11x9 achieved 13800, it's hard to tell, but I fancy the 11x9 to be faster.
I must confess, after the first 2 sorte's, my hands were shaking, but after a couple more flights I got used to it.
My sundowner pulls 140mph straight and level, this feels like it’s got a bit more go up its arse ! I will have the GPS on board next time and also try a 12x9 apc. I would love Bob 27 to comment on the ideal prop for this combo ?
I can only describe the vertical as 'silly' if you want to do a hamerhead, due to the vertical speed, you really have to pull the throttle back, and wait for it to slow down, before it will allow the tail to move, I suppose this would be typical of a fast pattern plane, it is just something I am not used to.
I could not see the point of pics, as we all Know what a rev looks like. Unfortunately Beaver (smasher of planes) could not get out of bed early enough for this morning's maiden (he was probley laying there, dreaming of being able to land like his idol vandata ! hopefully he will be able to be the video man next time. and somebody will be able to do the Doppler calculations with the sound track?
stay tuned to this channel folks !

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
Sorry about the "tests" guys. Got a new computer & a new camera & went through the learning process to share some information.
Bought this bird months ago & finally had time to install the stuff inside to make it fly. Note, all the reinforcement if ply & balsa around the engine box. Months ago some were discussing a weakness problem. Using an OS FS .70. Note the refueling Dot box. Works great. Also, beefed up the landing gear & am using Nylon breakaways. I know, they sometimes breakaway when you don't want it but better than tearing out the mount. I know, sometimes some Mono gets torn but this seems to be a better choice for me.
Had the maiden with the .70 FS. What a surprise! Took off in 20'. Using an APC 13-7 with 15% nitro. Did all the normal aerobatics with no surprise. Not enough juice to 3D or go verticle forever but almost there. Will try different props & who knows. This is one fast puppy! Not sure how fast as I do not have a radar gun. I think it goes over a 100 level & 130 in a shallow dive.
Boy is this thing hot to land as most of you have reported. Got it after the 3rd landing. I go to idle on my final turn & let it land itself. Still a little fast. But may experiment with different props. Considering flaperons as I am using a computer radio. Anyone done this?
My only other comment is the workmanship is great. No wrinkles, no weaknesses in the structure that is noted so far & it handles like a dart.

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
I'm considering a Saito for my old Revolver. She's in need of landing gear and some balsa but totally repairable. Found a good deal on the Saito .82 and the Saito 100. Would the 100 be too big? It's only $20 more so I'd rather get that one if I can make it work without too much weight or hassle.
Saito owners? What size are you running and how's the performance on the Revolver?

Hi Vendeta! Back up to post 1662 for a view of the battery location. Perfect balance. Using a Futaba 700mAH battery. Note how it fits .
