Any plane will break if you run it into something, crash it into the ground, manhandle it on the ground. You're not telling us enough about the circumstances of your friend's plane breaking.
Some folks have trouble not breaking a Frisbee...<G>
I have the model in question. I haven't flow it yet as I'm just now assembling it. It looks sturdy enough to me, but I wouldn't issue a sworn affidavit to that effect. I haven't studied it that well.
I buy planes like this, get them ready to fly and then look for "victims" to teach how to fly. Evil of me, I'm sure.
I think it is worth the money so far. This assumes that everything will function as advertised. Hobby Lobby is good at delivering the goods and good for service after the sale.
Will it break if you hit the ground or a pole? Most certainly. Just like every other airplane that has been made. If this worries you, get the Frisbee.

Yup, and the Air-Hogs are no weaker than any other plane...
If you broke it so easily, get an instructor, lest your next purchase also end up in a pile of debris.
Flying RC planes isn't about hitting the ground or other objects at all.

personally I dont like air hogs for kids, the number # 1 reason is that there products never match there claims ,
every procuct is either way under powered (e-flight ) or the ones that work with air simply dont go any where as far as the box states
my boys are old enought for real rc now , BUt I remember the disappointing purchases on every air hog product
