Default Engine for CMPro Giles 202 140

Hi
I just bought a CMPro Giles 202 140 size.

http://www.brapris.no/index.php?main...oducts_id=1994

What do you guys think about putting this motor in it?

http://www.grpro.com.cn/c-1.asp

Many people I have talked to think this will be to heavy for my plane but it is only aprox 200 grams heavier than the OS 140 4 Stroke engine.

YS 1.40 would be perfect. I think you meant a OS 1.20, since OS does not make a 1.40.

oops, yes I meant the os 120 vs the GRPro 26cc gasoline engine.I only use the os 120 as an example.what I want to know is if the GRPro would be a good choice for this plane.?I really want to try a gas engine for the first time but if this engine is to heavy and has to little power I will go for a glow engine.

You really want something more powerful.

At least 3 bHP for great performance with this plane.

It is heavier than the advertizing indicates, though nicely put together.

Hello I see that you have a CMPro Giles 202 140. I too purchased one but I purchased mine second hand and it did not come with any paperwork. I need to know where the CG is. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Mine is the version 1 green one.

Thanks Mike

larscato,

Both links do not work for me. I think you are talking about the same CMP Giles 202 that I have though. I cannot see what engine you are considering. I can tell you that my Giles has an OS 160FX on it, and I consider that nicely powered with unlimited vertical. The engine was not too heavy for the plane, it balanced nicely with shifting the battery around. I have version 1 in green and white. There is another fellow in the club with the version 2 with the alien scheme. He has a DLE-30 in it and that is also very ample power. So you can compare your GRPro 26 against the weight of these two engines. Less powerful engines might fly the plane but perhaps not as well. This plane performs best at speed but will slow to a walk for landings. Jon

Thanks for the reply I too am going to use the DLE 30 so I am glad to hear that it provides good power. I am in Denver so our elevation takes some horse power away but I think it will still be good. I just don't know where on the wing to locate th CG. I am sure that in the instructions it lists a good starting CG but I have not been able to locate a copy of the paperwork that accompanies the plane new.

Thanks again.

It's a dumb way to indicate the CG:

They should have just measured at the fuselage, but it works. I started as indicated but am sure I moved my battery back to move the CG back after the first flights. Jon

That is awesome. You have been a great help. Is this about where you have balanced your plane and if so does it fly well at this CG?

Thanks again

Like I said, I started at the CG location in the plan sheet. Later I moved the CG back a little, just by moving my 6v NimH back. I really have no clue how far back the CG actually moved, but it is likely just fractions of an inch, not even half, I bet. Hey, I lived in Littleton several chapters ago in my lifetime...1981-1988, and I flew at Chatfield. It was windy there and I remember overpowering planes due to the thin air. Now everyone everywhere overpowers their planes, haha! Jon

Yes I fly at Chatfield also. I only started flying there about 6 years ago and I love it. I flew at an Arvada site before that. You are right it seems we have to over power everything to get the performance that we want. I am hoping that a DLE 30 will be enough for the Giles. I am not a 3D pilot but I would like to try to move that way. Where do you fly now?

So, 3 moves later, I am in Salem, OR, flying in a club field just north of the city. Loving it here, but it IS wet. I think the DLE-30 here at sea level really is LOTS of power for the plane, so I think you will do fine with it in Denver.
