Plane cleaning spray. What is the recipe?
Well so many ideas have thrown into this threads .... and I do not want to add anymore to it, which basically do the cleaning job quite well.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE that I want to share is that I pre-clean my plane prior to starting the engine. Yeap!!! Pre-clean it by spraying the solution on to the surface that catches the most exhaust fuel such as undercarriage and wing surface and stabiliser/rudder.
By leaving the sprayed solution on the surface and go flying, it create a thin layer of liquid and by the time of cleaning, it will reduce the effort of taking out the stubborn oil.
Give it a try... it works for me BUT it may not work to others. I am thus far only using a liquid dishwasher solution mix with water.

cleaning solution
Some of the fellas in my flying club have been using Turtlewax diluted to about 10% with just plain old water. It will lift off the grime, gives a nice shine, and also protects.I have been using this for about 4 months with great results, &
"no waxy buildup". I think the glow fuel sorta dissolves the wax where it appears, and the rest of the surfaces that do not see fuel residue don"t
need any cleaning.

As far as getting the hard to remove black stains from the gas engines (Go-Jo) or any other hand cleaner from your local auto motive store will do the trick.
As far as alcohol goes well I sometimes use it as a de-adhesive on may things so stands to reason that it would also de-adhere my covering. Plain ole windex cleaner does just fine, keep it quick and simple.

I use no-drip Windex, and after it's all cleaned, I take lemon pledge to the monokote to shine it like it's new.. works nicely on cowels too

Rajul, sorry I may have mis led you on my post, I was referring to the plane covering not the engine, but you might try it on a small portion of you engine and see it it does the trick. I use auto motive hand cleaner to get the ground in stains such as oil and grease from my cloths when working on the sort. If its greasy then this stuff will work. As far as whats in it again I couldn't tell you, I just know that it takes the grease and oil from my hands and out of my cloths, so stands to reason it would remove the hard to remove stains from the cover.
I guess I should have worded my post differently.
If you do use hand cleaner make sure it does not have the grit.

RE: Plane cleaning spray. What is the recipe?
I forgot where I saw a Goldberg 540 that used a polish but can't remember the brand. Man this plane had a awesome gloss and wet look. Sure would like to know what will give me a shine that brilliant. At the time I was not interested in polishing up my planes. Anyone have any suggestions and maybe a photo? adrian-RCU
adrian-RCU your plane looks like what I have been looking for I will give it a try. Thanks

I agree with the fuel injector/carb cleaner users. A little GUMOUT on a Bounty paper towel will easily remove those stubborn oily black stains.
And yes, gas engines can be messy, especially the smaller ones. I can confirm that the 26cc MVVS 2-strokeand the Saito FG-20 4-stroke gas engines spew out a black oily mess.

I can only assume that you were refering to my last spelling sentence there.... Truth is I was in a hurry (and Im slightly retarded)haha and the fingerprint was my wifes....... Never fails she comes out and says.."whatcha doin" to which I reply with the camera up to my eye, "taking pictures of my plane to post on RCUto show how great my plane looks with the Wax on it. She then walks over and swipes her finger across saying sure does....didnt even notice haahhaha gotta love the women ehh? haha

RE: Plane cleaning spray. What is the recipe?
For the gunk build up on the engines I've been using Dawn Power Dissolver for dishes. It comes in a 12.8 FL OZ spray bottle. Spray it on the engine and use water and a brass brush for the hardspots. It doesn't get it looking like a new engine but it does a pretty good job. Not to bad onremoving the fuel residue on the plane after a long day of flying.
