RE: New Seagull Extra 260 180
I have an SPE 40 on mine and placed the batteries all the way back into the tail. The Zenoah 46 is much heavier and will require a fair amout of lead to balance - giving the plane a very poor wing loading. I would have thought the 26 would have been adequate. Each to their own I guess - but I cannot see the reasoning in overpowering if at the end of it all you need excess weight to balance. Sort of defeats the original purpose.

What does any one know about the Seagull Extra 260 180? This would help me narrow a search. Thanks.

For the money thia plane is a steal. I have mine with a Saito 180 and its one of my best flying planes. I have two Aeroworks that cost much more and they dont fly any better. Yes the Aeroworks are built much better but when it comes to flying the Seagull is just as good.

I don't know how to post pictures in this forum, but any way in the photobucket link you can see some pictures and videos of this plane, i did remove about 7 OZ removing the pilot, wheel pants, cutting the extra wheels shaft, personally i thing that the CG that the manual state is wrong or it like to be extremely nose heavy

Hi guys here are some pics of my Seagull Extra 260 and in the space of 3 hours I managed to fit up the MLD 28 and make all of the cutouts in the cowl.....kind of fits the model wrather well if I do say so myself the motor will swing according to the manual from a 16x10- an 18x10..... for the roght thrust I have set it at 2 degrees right which equates to 5mm offset on the firewall.

RE: New Seagull Extra 260 180
Hi guys well the models ready to go, I fired up the motor today for the first time and much to my amazement she started within a couple of dozen flicks...and a little choke on and away she goes. At this point I had a spare 18x8 master prop on the front and early indications are promising with loads of thrust and while the throttle isn't supper snappy like my DL 50 it is very progressive and smooth but it's still early days with only half a tank on the motor. the remainder of the running in will be done in the air with lots of airflow over the head in a couple of days time.

RE: New Seagull Extra 260 180
Hi guys well I midened the extra 260 today, what a lovely model. The MLD 28 just kept getting better and better running on premium pump fuel and 32-1 mineral oil. Flight times from the supplied kit tank with petrol bung and fuel lines was easily 25 minutes but the best thing was it only cost me about 25 cents a flight on fuel......I love petrol motors! So by the third flight the motor was really starting to sing with the padlepop master 18x8 prop with unlimited verticle lines and the C of G even with the two 3600 mah batteries in the engine box balanced out perfectly and only required a tiny bit of down elevator when inverted, so now I just have to mix out the rudder couple and I'm rite to start practicing the gold wings schedule. I'll post some gear pics if anyones interested.

I have a problem calling you bignuts - but well done on the maiden. I have one with an SPE40 and I've just convinced a mate to get one as well. He will be putting in a DZY 26 which i hope gives it stacks of grunt. My 40 used to pull it around great, but she's had a hard life and now I think the power band is no better than a good 26. Oh well, I still have my DL50 to play with and I'm just abour ready to move in with the big boys and buy a 100 size.

So what motor goes in this bird. This is my first gasser and the motor selection is driving me nuts. With electric I just calculated the watts and I would know exactly how the bird would perform. Anyway these are the engines I have read about people using.
MLD28
SPE26
SPE28
SPE 43
DL-50
Hobbycity 43
So which one should this bird be flown with for good punch out from a hover and unlimited vertical performance?

I just P.M'ed you. When it comes to electric I've got no idea. Funny what you get used to. The DL 50 is crazy and weights too much for this airframe. Any decent 26 should fly this bird as too a light weight 40.

I know electric too and it is so much easier, but i went with the OS 160. it is still on the ground and run in but have not gotten it in the air as of this post. will be maidening it later today and will get back to ya on how it flys and all. on the ground, the 160 pulls like a tractor with a 17-6 prop, i tied it to a stand with some rope and it looked like it wanted to get loose. the pull is very strong. almost felt like the pull of my da50 on my other extra. Anyway, will let yall know how it flies later tonight.

RE: New Seagull Extra 260 180
Well guys, i flew the extra 260 today and i must say that it is the best plane in my hanger. whew. The power of the 160 is straight up vertical until i couldn't see it anymore. wow. I am really impressed with this plane. I have the hanger 9 260 27% with a DA50 and this 180 flies so much smoother. It floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. needed very little trim on rudder and elevator for straight and level hands off flight. I am flying it with a OS 160, 17x6 APC prop, 15% wildcat fuel, 1 2sx3200mah lipo with smart fly reg, 5xJR821 servos. it was a breeze to put together and it just flies so nice and sweet. Has the power to go fast and slows down quickly. I really like this plane and set up.

RE: New Seagull Extra 260 180
I am going to change the Saito 180 for the Zenoah 26.I am eager to see how she does versus my four stroke. Does anyone know if the gas tank rubber stopper that comes with the Seagull is gas resistant? I was going to switch it to a Dubro Gas stopper but the hole in the gas tank is just a bit to large for the Dubro. Wondering what the concensus is.
