Default Anybody Flying or Familiar With the Hobbico Brightstar??

Opinions? Flight characteristics? Any drawbacks ( other than the less than state of the art covering) ? Thanks for any input.

I had two. Dumb thumbs killed the first. The second one died when I went flying on New Years Day. There was about 6" of snow on the ground. At the top of a loop, the rubberbands broke, and the fuselage nosed straight in. The wing landed about 10 seconds later.

I would bolt the wing on, personally.

I had one as my trainer, and I flew the snot out of it with an O.S. .46fx.

Worked great as an advanced trainer, but was able to do basic aerobatics and a nice snap roll. Flew it quite a while before I didn't make it out of a split s.

I didn't know they were still available.

i also had 2 of these planes--it was my first airplane ever--i really like this plane as a sport flyer and good low wing trainer--I fly it with a 46fx and is a nice stable flyer--my first one had radio failure and i totaled it and then bought another one--i recovered my second one in monokote and made an american flag wing--its a nice flying airplane but not the greatest aerobat in the world.......joe

Default Thanks Guys. They`re Not Still......

available, but their parts are. I cracked up my Avistar and my instructor has been letting me fly his. I absolutely love it. He`s going to sell it to me, and I`m thinking about buying spare parts for when/if I break something. I just wanted some input from more experienced pilots who know about the Brightstar to help me decide.

I recently bought a built/but never flown Brightstar that was on consignment
at a local hobby store.
I have refitted it with an AXI 4120/14 motor, Phoenix 80a speed control and a
16 cell battery pack.
Weather willing, I hope to make the maiden flight this weekend.
I think the Brightstar is really a nice looking plane and am stoked about flying it for the 1st time.

Bama,
A flying buddy of mine has one of these that I've flown a few times. He's running an OS .46 FX also. The plane is very light and performs great with that .46 FX. He's beaten his up pretty good over the past couple of years and it's still flying just fine. Seems to be a strong plane. He bolted his wing on, as toucano suggested. The only drawback on his so far has been the covering.
