What ARF has been the best for you?
This thread is intended to know the personal opinion of modelers regarding their best considered ARF models.
Please input what you best like or dislike of any model regarding quality, flyable capabilities or any consideration that make think that is the best of your fleet or that you have had.
(Pictures will be a great ad)
Thanks.

Here is one of the best performer that I have had right out of the box:
Hangar 9 Funtana 40
Engine Saito 82
Prop 14 x 6
This plane really make feel good, does good aerobatic maneuvers, flies very gentle on low rates and can perform a lot of 3D on high rates.

RE: What ARF has been the best for you?
For me, overall I have enjoyed my GP Stearman PT-17 the most. Flys like a dream, scale, big, and pretty IMO It's not a speed demon set up like I have it.. an OS .91 surpass I. It does fly 'scale-like' and just looks beautiful on the low passes. I'm sure more power would make it perform even better, but I bought it for a relaxing scale ship to putt around with in the air.
The only dislike.... LONG FIELD ASSEMBLY/DISASSEMBLY time
Close second though would be my GP Ultimate 1.60

I have the Funtana 40 and I do like flying it. But I would have to say I enjoy the Sig Rascal 40 best. It's just great to see it float by at a crawl about 3 feet off the deck with that Magnum 52 FS.

Hanger 9 Pulse XT40 has become my favorite. Never go to the field without it. Great flying sport plane with a 46 up front. Well made, will do more aerobatically than I`m capable of performing. Handles the wind well in the air, but will weathervane on the ground with a stiff crosswind. Recommend it to anyone.

hi,
i would have to say my hobbico skyvista very nice low wing and flies great with the .46 up front can be a lazy day flyer. or fly inverted / basic airobatics if you want to turn it up a little.
my second would be my AT-6 texan stable flyer but on high rates rolls faster than i can count em
bassman

RE: What ARF has been the best for you?
Hmmm that is tough because I actually have two. The Tower Hobbies 40 Trainer was super easy to put together and a great flying plane. However, I think that I will have to say that my Black Horse T-28 is my favorite. The quality of the plane is oustanding. I only had to change one thing. The plane came with woodscrews for the front landing gear, so I bought blind nuts and put them in instead. The only dislike I have about the plane is that it doesn't have retracts, but they can be a headache anyway so I have no real complaints. Both planes are in the 2nd picture

By explaining the flying characteristics of the plane posted, this thread could be of big help for others that are interested in buying an ARF.

I love my Funtana 90! It's a great everyday flyer. Goes from mild to wild

My current favorites.
- Funtana S90
- Nitroplanes CMP Giles 202 .50
- Nitroplanes CMP Edge540T 50CC
- Nitroplanes Polecat .50
- GP Giant U-Can-DO
- GP Super Skybolt ARF
My "Favorites" are those planes that I consider throwing in my van FIRST before going out to the field.
In other words, I don't think twice about wanting to bring that plane along or not.

For me, its my Jamara Air Trainer 2.
This is my trainer, which has a lot of people in my club very impressed, including 4 spanish champions and 1 world champion.
I'm having hellish problems with my cheap-branded engine, most flights are cut short by a dead-stick.
This plane just glides and glides and glides and glides.
Its seen many not so gentle landings, many high speed landings on the rough ground... but has needed zero repair, beyond the odd straightening of the undercarriage wire.
One one occasion, it cut out on takeoff.. I landed successfully but it rolled on and the wing badly clipped a metal post. It then spun horizontally and dropped down a ditch.
There was only a dent in the LE and nothing broken!
I have been doing more than enough aerobatics with this plane as well.. we even flew a few circuits inverted.
(mostly for me to proove to my club I can..... I used to fly F3F gliders and have converted to motors....)
The ONLY damage it has recieved, was when a sudden wind gust flipped the plane over while in the pits, unfortunately the fusolage hit my tool kit just infront of the tail and cracked it a little.... 20mins repair work with eppoxy....
Basically.
It looks great (far better than the publicity pics make out)
It flys AMAZINGLY (some f3a pilots have asked to have a go and really enjoyed!!!!)
It was really cheap.
Its nigh-on indestructable.
The build quality is top notch.
It beats the pants of my first trainer (graupner sky hero 2) which fell due to another club member turning on their TX while having the same frequency as me.
It is everything a trainer should be and more.

Great Planes Venus II. I'm not happy flying anything else.
The plane went together in 4 days and flies great 'right out of the box.' No adjustments, few trim clicks..flies straight and stable, yet will do anything I tell it to do (and more, but I"m not there yet!). It's just in the other room so don't let it hear me tell you this, but it's not the prettiest plane on the market (Shh!). It more than makes up for it in flight characteristics though

My Great Planes Reactor with a Saito .82 swinging an APC 14X4W prop. This plane is a blast to fly and will land as slow as you like. Handles the wind very well and will hold a nice kE down on the deck the whole length of the runway. The only draw back the covering but if you keep after it it's not to bad. very nice plane

My Great Planes Super Skybolt was the best quality and will take off and land like a trainer, but can do many aerobatic maneuvers. It's easy assembly at the field, but it is the right size to be able to fit in my Pontiac Vibe already assembled. I am using a Magnum .91 four stroke for power and fly at half throttle most of the time. It would be an awesome first bi-plane. My other planes tend to get neglected now that I have it.

You know, I float between my planes alot, But I flew my GP Super Stearman today..and it really is a decent plane, I can see why the thread is so long on it, it appears tower sells the heck out of them, and the PRICE NEVER COMES DOWN! it must be a big big seller..
Although its a nice looking plane, I am always tempted to recover it in a less common scheme..maybe someday...
Also, the small GP electric fokker d7 , and SE5 are great little planes, especially if you have a smooth runway for takeoffs and touch and goes. I bet I have around 10-15 hours of flight on those this year..

I have a OMP 67"ws Fusion with a Saito 1.25. It is hands down the aerobatic and the most forgiving plane I have ever flown. It will do what you tell it when you tell it without snapping out of any manuver.
It's not the best looking plane I have being a profile. Just the best flyer. It makes me look like a better pilot then I am.

The best ARF has been the World Models Cub. 26. with an O.S. FS-30. It's such a pretty plane in the air and it's small enough to fit in my car without disassembling it. That convenience is wonderful!
