Default For you Saito 72 Flyers...

What prop and what altitude are you flying with on the Saito 72?

Thanks,

Jason

Methinks that with the muffler the OS 46FX is 16.5 oz, the weight quoted on the OS web site is w/o the can.

Looks good!

Wayne, how does it compare to the profile planes like Sledge, Topcap, Knife, Extremeflights profile line, omp edge, etc..?

O.k, for those who have this little beasty, will it handle a saito .91? I know, I know, the .72 is plenty, but I have a .91 and don't plan on buying a .72 anytime in the near future. So I am just curious about opinions on fit, prop clearance, and structural integrity...remember speed will be limited by the left stick!

P-51,

I think a .91 would be a very tight squeeze.
My only real complaint when putting it together was that the motor area is very tight. Especially, around the throttle arm.
The arm winds up right next to the firewall making the throttle pushrod.................. well lets just say "interesting"

Also,
The .91 will make the plane noseheavy. You'll need lead in the tail and now your plane that was under 5 pounds will be closer to 6 or over. Will it fly? Sure. Will perfrom as intended? Probably not.

I have both the saito 72 and the 91 and there is only 2 ounces difference between the 2 of them. The 91 is a smidge larger but not by much. Is there enough prop clearance for a 14" prop. Does the saito 72 pull it out of a hover with authority. I should get mine today and I have both these engines available. I would lean toward the 72 since it is not mounted to something presently, The saito 91 has a better (more linear) mid range than the 72 IMO

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.

I need a fun fly plane for our club fun flys, and this one looks pretty good. Maybe I will have to reconsider the timing of the .72 purchase.

I would suggest to anyone to stay with a 4 stroke ... Saito or YS. If you want to hover and pull out ... torque is your best friend.

2 strokes tend to want to climb rather hover.

How is the tail? Is it very rugged with the carbon fiber rod supports?

If I were not able to get the saito 72, would the irvine 53 do it well? I would imagine it would seing that there nearly the same.

I am putting a Saito .72 on mine as well.

Heck I think the Saito would hover the whole box. This thing is light!!

I picked up mine from my LHS that I had on order. I'm also putting in a Saito .72.

I read in another thread someone knocked off his landing gear after a soft landing. The gear block doesn't look very secure. I was thinking of adding a piece of square spruce stock where the gear block meets the former.

Does anyone else have any suggestions/improvements for the assembly?

I also fell victim to the Funtana. As I said, if the weight looked good, I was in. Mine looks like the contents of the box weigh 3.8 pounds. That is counting the plastic bags. I think a 5 to 5.5 pound plane is in the works here. No visable damage to the plane as some other ARFs have showed this past year.

I wish it was solid white. I do not really dislike the yellow bottom, but I'm wondering why? I also would have left off the stickers and done some vinyl work to make it a bit more personal. I may see if "goo-gone" will remove them. The blue markings ang the flag may be Ultracote. They might stay, I have not decided.

I say, so far, this is a 100% good deal. I found mine at my LHS (HobbyTown USA). Final judgement will be made after a test flight. Could be as early as Saturday.

I'd be suprised if the weight on these planes is over 5 lbs with a Saito .72

Mine should be here today.
I plan on lighter than standard servos (JR 911's) and a NiMH battery pack.

Default Yellow underside

THe bottom of the plane is yellow for orientation. If you have ever flown a H9 Pizazz you will know that one of the biggest complaints about it is telling the top from the bottom. The trim pattern was almost identical on both sides, as is the shape.

The yellow will give you a good way of telling up from down and not make the plane to tacky. If you dont' like it I think it would be very easy to fix since it is just the wing and they use Ultracoat.

Maybe I will use my 91 after all, there is very little weight difference. I was reading another thread on here where guys are planning on using the saito 100!

Keep in mind that with the .72 its a tight fit in the cowl. The throttle arm is right up against the firewall.
Also, the holes in the firewall are pre-drilled with the blinds nuts already installed. If you use a .91 your gonna have to widen the mount, re-install blind nuts, fill the existing holes etc.

It really doesnt need the power of a .91
