I like the looks of this plane.
Not many threads on this plane. You boys still flying yours?

I'm running a .75AX using a 14x6. I have just changed to a 15x4 to improve the hover. I also added a glow driver as the .75AX likes to quit quite easily.
As for balance, I've got two JR 8511 digis in the tail and with a sub-C battery for the glow driver on the firewall it balances perfect. (see attached photo)
If you are after a nice sport plane that can do 3D this is it. If you just want to do 3D I would suggest flying something a lot lighter like a Precision Aerobatics Extra 260; 3D is so much easier with a super light airframe.

Are you using tygon tubing?
or just yellow silicone?
Also, It looks like you used red rtv sillicone around the muffler. That stuff breaks down with glow fuel and then gets shot back into your tank through the pressure line. Causes all kinds of problems on glow engines. Or at least that's my experience.
Very neat setup though. Looks good.

Hi there,
I'm using Tygon gas tubing. This is the first glow plane I've used it on. I like it because it doesn't kink and restrict fuel.
And yes I use red extractor silicone. I've used it on all my planes for years with synthetic fuel and have never had it break down. Saying that I don't keep my planes longer than a year; there's always something new out there to fly. )

They've cut the price on the Funtana 50 to 159 dollars. Maybe I'll lean that way... But I really like the way this plane looks. It cost 50% more, though...

RE: NEW GP Eagle 580 Matt Chapman GP/EP ARF
Depends on what you want to do.
This one is an extremely quick build. I would say it is probably the quickest build of any .40 size out there. But it is not a 3D machine. It looks good and is ment for general sport flying. It 3D's ok, but it is still a cap. If you want to 3D the funtana is not a bad choice. But then, neither is the Extreme Flight Extra 300 58", or a profile.
I am probably going to get slamed for this next statement... I do not consider the reactor to be a great 3D plane, maybe if you rebuild and enlarge the stab/elevator and reduce the counterbalance. Then maybe...
Not wanting to start a reactor is/is not 3D debate, just my 2c.

Yes the PA Extra is electric. Depending on what you want to do with the plane, but if it's 3D, go for the Precision Aerobatics Bad Boy.

My Saito 100 was recently orphaned from it's last air frame. Looking for comments on balance with this engine in the GP Eagle 580 Matt Chapman ARF 46. 1130Cagle, how did yours balance with your Saito 82?
Thanks

Put the servos in the tail and you'll be fine.
If you still end up a bit nose heavy, there were mounts for the elevator servos in the tail, but I would try to avoid it if possible.

Mine was a little tail heavy (with all servos under cockpit) and 3200 battery under motormount, inside cowl. So, I needed 1.5 oz weight at back of servo tray under cockpit.

I needed weight in tail with battery in front under cowel. Before I moved battery from inside fuse I needed weight in nose.

.55 AX should be fine, I have a Saito .82 on mine and I only use 1/2 throtle. It's Great.[8D]

Hi
I know this is an old thread but I wonder what the total weight with out fuel is with your Saito .82 for your Eagle 580 46/82 EP 53" wing span?
I put in a gasser RCGF 15 cc and ended up with 8.25 lbs. It is on the heavy side but take off and landings are easier than my 60 size P-47 Hanger 9 which is easy to land.
I put an APC 15x4W and top RPM is 8550. Flying top end set at8350 rpm. Just would like to know some other finished weights on this model.
Thanks, Jim ( Sky Thunder )

That's interesting using a gasser. How's the performance? I take it, it doesn't hover due to the extra nose weight?
Just finishing the 50" electric version, so it'll be interesting to see how it flies compared to my larger one.

Flying level 25' above the the strip then hitting full throttle and pulling up elevatorto climb verticle, it climbs to about 150 ft then stalls. That was with aZinger 15x6 wood prop.Topuseablerpm wasat 7350 rpm. I was going totry out the APC 15x4W tonight but it rained. Looks bad for a couple of days here in Wisconsin. The 15x4W has about 1000 rpm gain over the 15x6. I can't wait to try this combo. It should hover but onlyclose tofull throttle. Yes it is on the heavy side. I have 4 flights on this Eagle 580 46/81 EP. No Glow slime to clean up is great.
Your 50" electric should bea good size for outrunner and battery sizes.
I am still interested with finshed weights on the Eagle 580 46/81 EP with different engines or electric motors.

My biggest problem is landing I can only get 2 or 3 good landings out of 20.nmking90 said something about caps being hard to land.I find I when come in fast and it pops back up in to the air when it hits ground affect. when I come in slow it wants to tip stall. the cg is set per instructions. I need help how do you land a cap

Yeah it's a little slippery on landing. I have mine set up with flaperons. Lands a lot slower with them dropped 10mm. Other than that you simple have to be patient and accept long fast landings.

Is your Cap the new Eagle 580 46/81 EP?? I feel my Eagle 580 46/81lands at a moderate speed. I am use to flying P-47 60 size war birds and the Cap is easier to land. My 40 size Great Planes AT-6 liked to pop up and was tough to hit a good landing. Try to do a touch and go and when you touch cut back the throttle. That worked for my AT-6.
If your Cap is the Eagle 580 46/81 EP do you have a total weight with out fuel?
Thanks
