World Models Combat Series Wing Setting Issue
Hi,
I am currently working on finishing up my combat series yak 9d. I put the wing on and encountered a problem. The picture attached is from the manual and it shows an elevator level with the wing. My wing is not level. It is slightly uneven. Iwant this plane to fly well so what can Ido to fix this problem? Iwas thinking adding a few washers between the wing bolt and the fuselage on one side to mount the wing on an angle to level it with the elevator. Any comments?
Thanks!
Samolot

World Models is a great manufacturer. The wing and elevator does not look level in the drawing.... did you mean parallel?
The drawing shows the the distance from the elevator and wing should be even ( A = A' ) on both sides.
Hope this helps

the distances are not equal. How am I supposed to change anything after epoxying the elevator down (that was the order in the instructions)?

Samolot,
Is the horiz stabilizer bolted or glued on?
Have you glued it on yet?
If it is bolted on or not glued on yet you maybe ableto do some sanding to the fuse to adjust it.
The problem with your washer idea is the posibility of residue and wind turbulance into the fuse.
If you use that method youmay need to fill the the resulting spave with foam.
Good Luck,

Well, I was assembling the model according to the instructions. They told me to epoxy the elevator and rudder in (this was the couple first steps). Now they told me to place the wing in place and "adjust". How am I supposed to adjust when the elevator has been glued on already? These instructions can be misleading...

Many instructions seem to mislead. I try dry fitting first then epoxying.
How far unequal are they? I don't think it will affect it's flight if it's just a little off.
Try taking a picture of the difference.

Itried taking an eve picture. The right half of the wing (camera right) seems to be up a little higher. Ican assure you that the elevator and rudder are perfectly alligned at 90 degrees.

That doesn't look like alot and shouldn't have any affect on the flight. The wing looks a little out of square ( looking at picture right side is slightly higher ). If you want you can shim the right side screw to make it sit 90 degrees.
I have two world model airplanes and they are great.
Hope this helps

ill take your word for it and see how it flies. I am not quite sure what you are trying to say by "shimming the right screw to make it 90 degrees". Anyway, I am still waiting for a few parts (muffler, pushrods, and EZ connectors) and Ill try to make it fly by saturday (that is if tower hobbies ships my order some time soon!). Ill let you know how it flies. That is an OS .37 SZH Heli engine on the front by the way. Should fly pretty solid. I've grown fond of the planes simple construction and cannot wait to see how it flies. I too have heard excellent things about world models.

Samolot,
I've had a couple of WMs and they are a great plane.
I can't say the same for their instructions.
I guess you have now learned to dry fit and check things like this before gluing.
It happens to all of us. The things we learn the hardest are the hardest to forget.
You will probably be able to adjust this problem out with your trims.
Probably the only place you will notice it is if you are trying to do some really precise manuvers.
Like I said, if you adjust the wing to compensate make sure you plug the gap to keep fuel residue out.
Good Luck,

The plane will fly true even though the two surfaces are not parallel. Shimminf the right screw.... meaning to put a washer or some thin balsa to help bring the right side down a little to make it 90 degrees. There will be a thin gap on that side.
Try flying.... You should find that it is fine just the way it is.
Good Luck
