Default Building Ultra Stick 120 (LW conversion Finally Finished!!)

Howdy all,

Well I finaly found a US 120 for my Saito 180 to go in this weekend... It should be here by Wednesday. Anyhow I want to get this thing Assembeled to fly by next weekend but without an instruction manual online (If you know where to find it help me out!) I've got some questions on some accessorys I need to buy.

I've got 4 HS 605's that I'm going to put in the wing, and HS 615's that I'm going to use on the elevator and rudder.

I'm trying to figure out how long those servo wire extensions are going to need to be for the Aileron and flap servos.

Also with regards to balance.... Does anyone know how it balances out with the Saito 180 on the front and everything stock??

Any reccomendations on mods to be done while building?? I'm allready planing on putting the Rudder servo on the outside and towards the rear, and the elevator servo in the back as well. I'm thinking I'll leave it as a High wing setup and no convert to L.W.

Thanks

Default Ultra Stick 120

Sounds like a good idea. Servos in the tail. Has anyone thought about reducing or eliminating the recommended wing diahedral?

Yeah.... It seems Horizon pulled anything to do with the 120 size from their website.

I saw on some posts about building it with a flat wing... but nobody really said how it was..

I was also thinking about changing it to a low wing......but I can't really find anything on it other than the plans from RCM,,,What all does this involve???

Thanks!!

Now about the Low Wing conversion.... Anyone know where it is on the web??? I found the spot on RCM where you can order the plans....and the place that sells the cowlings and canopy... but I'd like to see what all is involved before i order the plans and delay the assembly.... So If anyone knows of links to the low conversion please share!

HSH - log onto RCM, go to the articles, and search for Jim Feldmann - the article will pop up.

Yeah... I looked there... Unfortunatly to view back articles (or pretty much anything for that matter on their site) you need to have a subscription to there magazine..... which I don't.....but thanks for the idea Lynn!

I also have an US 120 in the build queue.

My wing *is* flat. No dihedral. I'm still building it, so I can't tell you how it flies.
I expect it will be just fine.

As for the low-wing conversion - a fellow named 'Stomper' has posted info about his here on RCU. A search should tell you what you need to know.

Finally got a hold of one of these. Going to start soon. Got some stuff ordered for it. It will require some mods. I plan to install a zdz 40. I'm going to install the servos in the rear. Rudder will be top mounted with pull-pull. Looking for a suggestion for a good tailgear set-up. Over.

I'm going for the low wing conversion.. I'm going to start assembling tomorrow and do what I can without the acctual Plans from RCM (need those templates!) .... hopefullly they ship them out quickly!!

I think my only concern is that my Saito 180 isn't going to be able to hold and pull out of a hover at 5000 ft asl where I fly..... Maybe I should try and trade that thing for a gasser...

About the tail gear ...I think alot of people go with the Sullivan one.... I've got one of those CBA/Tatone Leaf-spring type off a plane that I'm not flying any more that I'm going to use....

Default Finally FINISHED!!

Well after nearly a month and a half I've finished my Ultra Stick Low Wing. The big hold up was waiting for the plans from RCM.... They took nearly a month to deliver!! (I should have just driven the 500 miles to their office to get them ) It sure does look alot nicer than the standard version!! ANyhow here some pictures of the process for those interested. If anyone's planing on doing this, feel free to email me for some helpful files.

I know this is an old thread, but I just started the low wing conversion on an ultra stick 120 lite. I have not been able to locate anyone who has the molds for the canopy and cowling. I'm not too interested in the wheel pants, but if they are part of a package, I will take them.
Does anyone out there know where I can get these items or if they are still available. The people that bought out Stan's Fiber Tech said they didn't get these molds and don't know who has them. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Rick
