RE: Great Planes Z-526 ZLIN Akrobat Build Thread
Drube,
Great to hear it's reasonably strong. Even better to hear your going to use the 46AX
I have stared my build just tonight and for now, I intend to use the 46AX
I'm still learning, and I'm sure I'll be fine, but good to know once I get used to it that a 55AX drops right in.
I really wanted to go 4 stroke, but I'm going to wait to save a few $$ I already had a 46AX.
I'll let oyu know how it goes once I get to fly it!
Thanks for the info all -S-

Just to clairify, the 46AX is mounted inverted so I would think the 55AX would be fine inverted also. But like said if you were to mount the engine sideways you'll need to cut alot of the cowl just to get it on because it's so narrow. Going to stay with the engine inverted from now on it just looks better and runs great! I've been using a 11x6 and 12x6 prop with the 46.

Here's a vid my buddy shot of the Zlin the other day, It was a bit windy but flew great. I'm running a OS 46AX and a 12x6 APC. Plenty of power in my opinion for sport flying.

I am sure a .51 ST or 55ax would be VERY good for this plane....(not going to be doing 3d) Will give plenty of thrust...
I plan on using a .91 4-stroke... (have couple laying around)....
I have a saito .81 NIB, but that will be used in a 3d plane...
Glad I purchased this plane...

A hoot, for sure I think this plane may be able to do some fun aerobatics.... I will try some 3d, and get some Big throws...... I will have to check where the stab sits. If it sits quite scale, and is simmular to a cap, it will be quite fun doing snaps ect...

I think the hor. stab was lowered to make it docile... Slight devient from scale location. This is the norm for all manufactors to with this type of plane.... As many very well known designers will say "It is always a compromise".' Although a Cap232, and the M.Chappman a 580, Seagull really left there cap 232's stab in a VERY scale location..... I would like to fly that one, and see how it changes the plane....to my 1/3Cap 580... As that sab was lowered a bit, out of scale to say the least...

I just picked one of these up. I normally fly larger scale and sport type planes but was looking for sometning smaller for those times when i just want a keep it simple. Do you really need a 70 size 4 -stroke to fly this? It seems to me that is overkill. I have a Saito 56 that i think i will try in it first. It took about 3 hours to get all the wrinkles out. I believe that when you buy an arf these days the covering job should be better than this. There will always be some wrinkles but they shouldn't be over the whole plane.

A 70 4 stroke is pretty much standard in place of a .46 size engine recommendation for any ARF. You don't have to fly the .70 full throttle to experience the difference. If I had a .56 on hand, I'd try it before buying a .70 4 stroke and vise versa. For a plane designed to be aerobatic, the .70 will swing a bigger prop and do better than the .56 in certain situations. I generally like to have power in reserve for any plane.

I don't know how the load can be overcome with a .46. I use that size prop on a .61.

It flys great plus longer flight times.According to the OSsite the 12x6 is in range.. Recommended Props: 10.5x6, 11x6-8, 12x6-7 I used to run a 10x6 on the engine when it was in a spacewalker.. It was pretty quick.

It's hard to believe that I've been flying mine every summer since 2010. That's a total of 10 years! I got wondering. If the Wings are foam core, is the stab foam core too? Does anyone know?
